Visiting Brasilia:

Well, last weekend I had the privilege of having a good time with my friends traveling with our planes to Brasilia, and I suppose that you guys may enjoy some pics we took from it. September the 7th is the national independence day, and this time we got a invitation from Vigberto Tartucci and his son for their annual r/c plane meeting. This father and son team is very avid as r/c jet flyers and have developed their own ideas on how a jet should be. it was amazing to see this and also meeting other jet friends from Brazil in this incredible place.
For the first time I took my jet to travel by plane, so I used a very interesting solution by my long time friend Joao Kesikowski: He made a box from aluminum and policarbonate to carry the planes and also turn as a table at the field.
The box is six foot long and the only plane that fitted was my decade old Kangaroo.. it was took out from retirement for another sortie and again it didn´t let me down.
This is the box floor with the plane strapped to it:

This box fits inside my Mondeo station wagon but anyway my in-law that owns a van company offered to send it to the airport. It weights 80 pounds with the Roo inside and was quite easy to manage around due to its wheels..also Manoel with his Perereca Jet, with a slighty shorter version of the same box.
The idea on making them transparent is to people see what´s inside it without needing to open it, not to mention that policarbonate is very light and strong. Kids looked in awe watching at them making questions about and even some girls too..
I paid about 30 dollars on excess weight taxes at the check in, and the funniest thing of all was that at the x-ray we passed the Radios, a lot of strange looking tools, battery chargers, etc. and the only case questioned was the one wich had a ultra small nail scissor!

Checkout was effortless, and Vigberto himself arrived at the airport to pick us up and our boxes with three cars. We went directly to the field and this is how the box work in the "table" mode:
Don´t need to mention that everything arrived without a scratch, as the airport guys seems to take extra care when handling this miniature airplanes.

The field itself is very near the city and the airport, but there was nothing to hit or fall into on the flight line.. the strip itself is 350m long and probably is one of the longest purpose built r/c runway in the world, if not the longest.. a very suited place to fly a jet.

This spiderman jet was great. It is a Vigberto´s team design and it is powered by a P200 and it has roughly a lenght of 2.5 meters, built in nomex honeycomb.

Great report!
Good to see the old viper jet still around, and I like the colour scheme on the green flash
I must get to Brazil one day to a jet meet. It's one of the few places in the world that I have to check off my " Places to go fly jets before I die" List!
Regards Al

Later, in the Independence day parade we watched the Tucanos doing a very nice presentation in Brasilia.. what picture could be more Brazilian than the first one? The Patrouille de France also made a smoke passage in French colors, as they where visiting Brasilia too, but didn´t do the aerobatic routine for some reason.. a bit of a letdown, but like they say, c´est la vie!
Also a replica of Santos Dumont´s 1909 airplane was happily flying around.. it is incredible that he used to travel around Paris using this machine at that time and he was able to take it to the field disassembled in the trunk of his car.

I suppose that there will be a event DVD soon, and someone may rip some of it at youtube later, Juninho. Just keep cool and wait!
meanwhile you can see a old video of some of the different jets from Brasilia.. If you like the Rolling Stones the better.

Never counted how many jets where there, but a lot of kerosene was burned..
