Why no turbine made in USA
Hi all !
Have you ever wondered why there is no commercial turbine engine developed and made in the USA today ? I still can't figure out why...
Any suggestion ?

Yeah, but lots of luck dealing with them..... Tried for a couple months at one point, thank god the deal never went through, I think I'd have just been out a bunch of money.

I never got into it, but isn't the grossly inexpensive Black Mamba made here?

Seem to be a well made engine. We are testing one at the moment with the possibility of US Distribution. They do appear to be quite similar to the old TJT engines.

No its actually made in Malaysia and its design is based around the JG100 design not the TJT-3000, Ask me how I know!!!.....
Ive owned all three of these turbines (JG-100, TJT-3000 and Black Mamba )in various versions and worked on development with both manufacturers.. The Mamba has also been available for quite some time already in U.S. through EasyTiger Models- http://easytigermodels.com/index.php...products_id=26

Well, the short story is this....
They had a bobcat for sale on ebay, it was first listed for $3000, that auction was listed by user rtmvideo, it ended with no buyer. It was relisted later by rtmvideo for $3500, it again ended with no buyer. It was then listed by swbturbines for $2300, again it ended with no buyer. Then listed for $1900 by user rtmvideo.
Anyway, the long and short of it is, I emailed them because I wanted to bid on it but they didn't have a ship to Canada option. During talking with them we came to an agreement since the ebay auction ended again. Then they started with lack of communication, they finally wanted to make a deal and everything seemed ok except that they seemed VERY anxious to get the money immediately. I had spoken with them on the phone multiple times by this point. I agreed to their price but wanted to use a 3rd party for the transaction, we agreed on a well known hobby store that would act as the 3rd party. Everything was in place, we had all talked to each other, I sent a deposit to cover shipping costs as agreed and sent the payment for the jet to the hobby store. They contacted SWB and told them the money was there and to send the Bobcat. That was the last we heard from anyone. The Bobcat ended up being sold to another person, who it was I have no idea.
Fortunately I got my money back from the hobby store (the reason I used them in the first place) and filed a claim with paypal and got my money back from them as well.
I wouldn't send SWB a nickel for anything after that whole ordeal, not for engines or otherwise.
EDIT: found all my email correspondence regarding the bobcat deal so I corrected the prices I mentioned in the ebay listings.
There is much more interesting information in those emails regarding SWB turbines, but I'll keep that off the forum. I would strongly warn against dealing with SWB on anything though.

Thanks Todd and Marty.
Yeah, I knew Curtis M. sold them on his site... I thought they were mfg'd here. I just looked it up and I see it's not as inexpensive as I thought. [X(]
I believe the thread's author has his answer(s).

SBW in Wisconsin made a MAMBA 11 lb turbine, I own 2 of them and they run superb as air starts, the E-start conversions are not so good as the ramp start sequence needs tweaking. Andy Lowe did their ECU work and is well versed in anything SWB Mamba. Andy flies them as well.
Good thing they run so well because they pretty much have no after sales support service.........

I have one also in a Ceremark/Tamjets F-16. It's an E start and have no problems with it. It's a real strong engine - I'm thinking of changing the ecu to a Xicoy AU-605 fadec autostart and boosting the RPM up for a little more thrust.
