RE: TBM DV8R anyone have one or about too?
Thought I'd post some pictures of a TBM DV8R Canopy I painted for Chic.
This canopy unfortunately had a large crack in it so I had to repair that first, then adjust the canopy frame paint job to completely cover it. The cockpit floor is made of Depron with a speckle spray finish on it, the rear section is made in 3 interlocking pieces and the front in 2 so that it can be removed if needed.
Paint is all PPG base clear, the 2 pictures where you see me are just the reflection in the black, sorry for the crappy quality pictures, I took them with my phone!
The only unfortunate part is that the clear canopy provided in this kit is one of the worst clear canopies I've ever seen, they must throw dirt on the plug before they pull the canopy. There were so many bumps and lumps in the plastic it took forever just to sand it down flat before paint. Unfortunately, they still show (and always will) in the clear sections!

LGM,
YOU THE MAN!!! That is a GREAT job my friend!!! I know we are having quality control problems over seas!! It makes ME SO F'n mad that they can't get it together!! We are getting new canopy's and some canopy kits in. I do have a call into them in regards to this and some other things, along with the retracts. But anyway..... Great job!!!

HooRay for our northern neighbors. Jeremy, my canopy looks beautiful, it looks like a work of art. I can not thank you enough for your work and efforts. I am indebted to you for the effort put into my project. Gerry, you have been a great advisor to this project and I greatly appreciate it. As shown in an earlier posting on this thread, I will be recovering my DV8R to an overall white color scheme with red and blue trim. It will be done in a British RAF scheme. It will have tri-color rudder bars and fuse and wing roundels. I will purchase the Falcon turbine this summer at the Jet Liberty Event in Penna. from my good buddy Andy Kane. This project is a great one for me as a jet rookie and I thank of you contributors to this thread such as Gerry and Noahb. Thank you all and please keep the information coming. Again, thanks Jeremy for some great spraying. Chic

Regardless of these problems, It's still better than a stick built kit. I'v just got done with three 1/3 scale ww-I birds in the last 3 years. After that, this would be a dream!!! ha. I would love to have one!!! Anyone thats thought Neg. about this bird that bungs one up or dicides they don't want it, e-mail. Now if a KingTech K-80 would push it???

TBM should have replaced the set for you. However if you don't want to deal with replacing them try and find out exactly where it is leaking and if possible use a silicone based grease and rub it all around on the oring and try to get some on the side of it. Hopefully it will seal. If not, call TBM up and have them with replace the gear set entirely or ask for your money back on the gear. Very disapointing the problems they are having with the retract set.

Great. Hope to go fly tomorrow. This time of year, it's always windy 25-35mph with dust. Tomorrow is suppose to be nice.
So I am taking out my dv8r and my Pilot 35% yak.
I am looking for a good deal on either an eagle or rhino for the dv8r.
I just put smoke on it so I hope to test it out tomorrow.

Hooker53,
The Plastic wheel wells were in my arf kit but they will not fit as stock we had to make some modes to get the system to lock up.
1. first is to add a 1/8 shim to the main gear Mt. blocks to rase the retract up away from the wing so wheel will not damage the upper wing skin.
2. inlarge the wheel well in the wing skin, to allow the wheel to come up and lock.
3. as you can see in the photo open up the plastic wheel well which will allow the gear to lock up.
4. we used CA to water proof the balsa wing skin and when dry we used clear silicone to make a air seal.
5. I used button head scews to attch the wheel well to the wing to allow removal for Maintenance.
I should paint it white to finish it but needed to fly it to make sure there were no problems.
I have over 5 hours on the P-120Sx and it is a sweet flying Alaska Bush Jet as I call it.
