Weston pipe...help

I'm a newbee in this area of jets, and ducted fans, etc. I'm working on a Byrons, ducted fan, F-16, with an OS91, and I'm interested in learning more about the "Weston pipe" that so many refer to in these threads. Searching online has not unccovered a source for them, and actually has only turned up references to their use on smaller motors in helicopters. I am hoping to be able to clean up the intake for the fan. Any help out there???

I have had exp. with weston pipes in 2 of my DF jets now,and I can tell you this- I honestly feel they are steps above the rest!!!They are alot quieter,lighter & add a noticeable amount of power to your jet.My YA F16 got quite a bit faster after going from a JMP system II to a weston pipe.If your first jet is gonna be a bryon fan setup then your gonna have a mess no matter what cause its a pusher style fan-hence having the fan shoot oil & goop everywhere.But in essence the bryon fans offer more low end power/bite for more authoritive takeoffs & are not real fast whereis dynamax /ramtec setups are not all that messy cause the fan is in front of the engine-these fans are for extreme top end speed..I know I have steered off course a bit here, but wanted to shed a little more light on the scope of the differences & what to expect from each.There really is no way to make a bryon setup totally clean inside,no matter what you do you will have a oily mess at the end of the day.I did try running silicone extensions out of the pipe & out the bottom of my jet once but it just seemed to take away too much power.What you can do to make the mess a little less is to coat the inside of your jet (in the engine area) with talc powder or baby powder-it will help to absorb a lot of the oil/mess-I tried this.As far as a source for weston pipes ,I'd try tgajets.com-they seem to have the best deal around on them & steve & darryl are great guys too & very helpful/exprienced in the jet world.

After writing my previous post I realized that you are probably already quite familiar with fan setups & how to work. I didnt mean to make it seem like" DF jet Class 101" up in here .Hopefully in all my "rambling on" you got some helpful info you were looking for out of my last response :stupid:

Thank you soooo very much for the interesting, and informative note. I am so new to all this...your helpful suggestions are all new, being heard for the first time, and all are quite welcomed info'. I'll try the url you sent for the Weston pipe. Thanks also for the heads up about the oily mess. I never thought about that. I was refering to "cleaning up" the air flow path at the fan intake. It seems like Byron stacked everything right in front of the fan....appears to be a bad arrangement in terms of fan performance. Please do pass along anything else you feel may be helpful.

The Weston Byron style pipe will give you a great improvement in performance over the standard turn around pipe i have them in stock.

Make sure you fix the pressure nipple before flying. The fitting is tapped into thin walled aluminum, and the dummies use non heat resistant epoxy to hold it in place. Some replace the epoxy with JB Weld. I used Alumiweld to build up a boss on the pipe, then drilled and tapped it. ASo far I am please with the pipe's performance.
