Skymaster MIG29 servos
Just received my Skymaster MIG29. The std size servos recomended in the instructions are too thick for the ailerons and rudders. Can anyone who has built one tell me what servos they used or point me in the direction of a descent high torque servo that is MAX 18mm thick? I would reckon that around the 8-10kg mark would be enough for the rudder and ailerons as they are pretty small surfaces.

RE: Skymaster MIG29 servos
On the rudders of SM jets I have used Hitec 5125's or JR DS 161. They work fine but are a bit fragile. I did use them also on the ailerons of an F-18 once, and although they worked it was never a great solution
Futaba make a great servo called the 3150. The high performance glider guys use them and I have them fitted to a few of my mouldies. 30x10.8x29 mm Metal geared and 3.7kg at 4.8 volt
The servo I would use is the JR DS 3401 midi servo 4.3 kg of power. Digital metal gear and size wise 26.5x15x33 mm
Hope this helps?

RE: Skymaster MIG29 servos
Multiplex also make the Slimstar servo which is about the same spec as the Futaba. The reason I mention it is it is a unique design, really well engineered and quite a different shape. Sometimes that is a good thing, sometimes not. I have used them quite a lot on jet rudders and they have been fine.

I worked with Tim today and we have made 8411's fit by thinning the hatches and using BVM Flush servo mounts...pity Skymaster didn't add 1mm to the surface thickness!
