RE: US JET WORLD MASTERS
Have to agree Dennis, it is not geared towards spectators, I only live 45mins from Enniskillen and if I had'nt been in the ROI team I would have only went half the time.
Something that the IJMC need to look at for the future on how to gear the event more towards the spectator if possible, but I dont think letting everyone roam freely amongst the models is the answer either.
If the sun is shinning, then the models could be left outside in a row behind a railing, this was the plan in N.Ireland I believe, but we dont have much sun here just weather

Here are a few pics from the practice flights previous to the static judging. Alot of nice models here, and the organizers were working their best to make this a good event. I had to leave on Saturday, but I enjoyed the visit. [8D]
A pair of MiG-27s waiting for a practice flight - they appear to fly great! A beautiful Hawker hunter, I think from the Swiss team. A pair of Alphajets from team Thailand. I believe a Swiss Hawk landing, from the German team. I apologize if I get the teams/owners messed up...

More pics from practice time.
Lance Campbell, the event CD, being trailered with one of his airplane parts... Hmm, what could it be? A Vampire that travelled with the South Africa team. Lotsa detail in the cockpit! I believe this model sustained some damage on the vertical tails during the pre-event storm, [] but the team was able to repair and flew a round before I left. [8D] And, Team Italia flying 4 point rolls with a large G-91 Gina. This model is huge... Plus, they brought two! They also had a cool setup under the big tent, with a huge flag, a huge board showing the build process (molds, etc) for this model, and opera music playing in the background!

Well I AM here and SO glad I did make the trip.
Firstly the site is perfect, organisation well thought of, although NOT well attended by Joe Public. Catering is a bit thin on the ground.
The sad news is the damage suffered to models of the SA team, Francois Diedreschen's Hawk is badly damaged but will repair and Mark Savage's Vampite is probably repairable. Dylans Vampire HAS been repaired and flew beutifully today
Francois's wife was concussed and suffered some facial injuries and is on the way back to SA via London for medical treatment and she takes with her our very best wishes for a full recovery.
I have not yet had time to take a close look at all models, spent a lot of time catching up with old friends and watching some superb flying with some magnificent models all in perfect but hot, 95f , weather, with very light winds. Paul Dunkley, GB, flew the Goshawk superbly (he used to be Hawk QFI at Valley and flies it accordingly ) and it looks fantastic in the air and Dylan's Vamp was similarly impressive. Paul's slow pass with everything out incuding the hook was just superb !
Almost all models here are larger types, typical is the AW hawk size and the standard is exceptionally high, including Pauls Goshawk and Philip A's wonderfully accurate Fouga. Hawks not as numerous as previous events but still quite a few, AW and Skygate , superb standard.
The Russians !
Difficult to describe. Vitaly's Yak 30 is out of this world it is perfect and came easily top in static. Had an engine flameout on one flight but has been ground run and is ready to go again. I am preparing a close up of this model for RCJI but it is truly breathtakingly, stunningly good !
The Mig 27s of Vertical are also quite outstanding with its swing wing and exquisite and complex landing gear, surprisingly came only 9th in static. I saw it fly at JP and when it flew yesterday I'm told it flew just as well, rock solid, a truly magnificent model, (using Weatronics for guidance). I am trying to determine what kind of datum shift, if any, that this model uses when it swings the wings as it appears to have NO trim change. the owner speaks very little english and I speak NO Russian which makes comms difficult !
Several Sabres (F86 itype inc Scott Harris's) beautifully done in Flite metal and although not competing Lance Campbell has his huge a superb SR 71, a 9 year project, (also with Weatronics) ready for noon time demo. He has very accurately copied the delicate wing LE kink and droop, rather like Concorde's complex outboard section.
One model was withdrawn after static , nothing sinister, just too heavy !
Radios a mix of Futaba and JR with FASST, Spektrum and Weatronics, engines mainly Jetcats and G -boosters , standard of construction and finish almost uniformly world class and better. Flying not at all boring becuase the standards was so darn good and the conditions perfect.
More later but has the makings of great event which has raised the bar of jet modelling to unbelievable standards.
regards,
David.

More pics from practice. Team Switzerland readying some of their jets. Team Taiwan in the big tent, with a nice Mirage, and not-too-often modelled P-59. Scott Harris and his Nat Guard F-16. Scott I believe was lending the model to South Africa so the team could get more flights in, since 2 of their aircraft were damaged from the previous storm. [] And the instrument panel to the Yak-130. Wow! Those are not fixed images, but I think I saw moving maps, etc on the displays. Quite intricate!

Last pics I'll show. I agree, Paul's T-45 looked awesome, and appeared to fly great! I thought it appeared to hang from a string, when the flaps and slats were down - maybe it was just me... [8D] David Shulman flying a Tuono - I hear the designer was a competitor in the event. This was a relatively low pass... Lance's SR-71 on landing - I have no idea how he found time to fly it... And a nicely finished Black Hawk on landing approach. Where else can you fly, with a B-47 parked in the background?
Some of the event staff were wisking spectators thru the tents, to get a closer look at the models. The groups were kept small so it is easier to ensure "no handling" of the models. The pilots were eager to discuss their models with the spectators, and I know the spectators appreciated it, from their comments. I certainly appreciated seeing models not often seen modeled in the US.
I wish I coulda stayed longer. Best of luck to all the teams!

I went to the JWM in Ireland and I have to say I would never go again. .....

Meanwhile, a very big thank you to the organizers, Dewey Davenport and Roger Shipley, who managed to get a great team together, and a really big thank you to the many volunteers who make this event run smooth like clockwork. This is definitely setting a new standard. THANK YOU.

Pretty sad and pathetic Dennis, 4 years after the Ireland JWM you still try to trash this event. I can only support your decision not ever to show up again, with this piss poor attitude, better you stay at home.

Thanks everyone for the pictures and especially David for the knowledgeable report.

From a scale jet point of view is this still the case for the US? With so many local events it seems not a priority or is that wrong?
