Default PST Air Trap

A few of us here locally are going to try the PST air traps on our jets and we are looking for some input on the proper orientation from guys that have been using the tanks for a while.

We only have experience with the UAT tanks but we are going to try these in our larger turbines this year since they have the hard bottles and won't collapse as easily, and have the larger diameter fittings.

We typically set the UAT at a 45 degree angle and would like to know what works best for the PST style tanks.

Thanks in advance for any help, Gary

Hi Gary
I've used the PST Airtrap or BAT(Baby Air Trap) in some of my jets
It works best when mounted upright

The other posts are correct, mount the bottle in a vertical position.

Gary,

I put the PST air trap in the FEJ 1:5.5 scale F-16 yesterday. It fit in the same spot as the Hansen air trap. Just had to change the Tygon lines over and that was it. The bottle is setting on its side with a slight upward tilt. When I put fuel in the plane, I held the nose up so most of the air escaped the bottle. Then I tested the system with the GSU up to 6 volts. No problem. This things works just like a header tank. Very little resistance to flow.

When taking the fuel out, some air gets into the bottle but the white filter material is still fully submerged. I think I will try running it this way. I see no reason it has to be mounted vertically. Although, if it were, all the air could be removed during fueling. The only downside I can see is that you can't get all the air out of the bottle when it is mounted on its side.

Oh, and I love the pink cap! I think this is going to work out great.

I used 1/8 th Tygon from the bottle over to the pump. Was a liitle tough getting the line over the large nipple on the bottle. But no problem on the Jetcat pump. 1/8th Tygon fits perfectly on the pump nipple. I know you like to use 6 mm clear tubing. I tried some on the bottle nipple. I couldn't get it to push on. You might have to go to 8 mm tubing. It is that big. Let me know how you end up plumbing yours.

Terry, I really only use the 6mm clear because it fits the BVM UAT center fitting. Since I am not using the UAT I will definitely be using tygon. I am probably going to make some changes on the Scorpion fuel system and will remove the UAT and replace it with the PST tank as well. The BVM UAT was still collapsing with the new P-160 installed.

It is going to be 50 degrees next weekend, maybe we can go fly...

Gary,

Count me in for flying. Although I hear rain is forcasted. It's been so long. Its past time to kick the tires and light the fires my friend. I have had just about enough of the snow. I might be on cruches this weekend though. I get the plates and screws taken out of my ankle this Wednesday.

Terry, I forgot about your surgery. We can drive you to the flight line!! I can even fly your plane for you if you want me to...

Hope your surgery goes well.

You know, a really good friend would carry me piggy back down to the flight line. I'll guess I'll just have to ask Mikey.

Of course, you can fly my plane any time! I'll just need a signed blank check.... Just kidding. If this plane does well, I definitely want you to fly it. But me first.

Terry
