Silver Tape
I just finished building a Comp Arf Flash. Now if the snow would melt and the weather would get a little bit warmer I will be able to Maiden it.
I have a question regarding Leading edge tape. I see a lot of of planes with a bright silver tape on the front leading edge. Making it a lot easier to see when Landing. I would like to do the same but I am looking for a Shinier tape then the Standard Silver heat tape.
Any one know what I can use and where to get it ?

RE: Silver Tape
Hi Pete, I used the aluminum HVAC tape on my Patriot with very good results, easy to apply looks good and is durable. Let me know when you are going to fly the beast.

HVAC here too, i use the thinner type with the red writing on it, a little alcohol and it'll come right off. i cut to length/width then take a round #2 pencil and with the tape laying a piece of glass i lay the pencil flat and press it hard and drag it down the tape, it'll make it perfectly flat and smooth with no blemishes at all, then it's just a matter of applying it to the plane, use the same pencil to burnish it down good.

RE: Silver Tape
I used Chrome Monokote trim tape on a Elan I had. Thought it would really give me a visual queue on landing, not so much. The chrome disappears for the most part. I have switched to black leading edges and it works magnitudes better.....something to think about.

I switched to black Monokote trim also. It's a lot more visible than the chrome. The chrome does look better on the ground, but I don't usually have problems seeing the plane when it's sittin' on the tires.

The black sounds good and would resemble deicing boots, which many planes have.
Would definitely be easier to see, as the chrome would simply reflect the sky color causing it to blend into the sky.

RE: Silver Tape
Well I went with the Silver HVAC Tape after all.
I used alcohol and wiped the red lettering off... I then measured and cut to the width I wanted (2 inch's) and did the same thing KC did with the
pencil to apply. Worked like a charm

I'm going to try the metal tape on my Flash. I hope it helps on cloudy overcast days, but I have my doubts. We'll see.

For me the main reason for the LE tape is not visibility issues. Is the cheapest and easy way to prevent a wing delamination in flight. As we all know that most of this kits have the wing half joined by a bed of micro fiber epoxy mix and is hard to tell is our kit is glued properly or not by just looking thru the ribs openings or servo hatches. Using this tape is a good insurance to prevent such kind of accident. And yes it happen before. Good thing not always and minimal number with not casualties. Yes they do help some people to see it better in some angles but we all have different sight ranges.

RE: Silver Tape
Good point Alex, i watched a Lightning at Pampa do exactly that last year.
The silver tape i used on my Bandit was called Presto from tower hobbies. It's the thinnest chrome vinyl i've found so far and was really easy to apply, although i do it for a living so that might of helped a bit
