Kevlar Tanks or not?
Hi to everyone!
I'm new to turbines and will be putting a SM1/8 F16 together in the next few months. I'm looking to choose between standard plastic fuel tanks or upgrading to kevlar tanks and not really sure if its a beneficial upgrade.
As i lack the necessary turbine experience, i hope the poll will give a clear preference of the more experienced pilots and their views on kevlar tanks over the standard plastic ones... or the other way around....
Thanks in advance!
Rob

RE: Kevlar Tanks or not?
Hey Rush, your question is because Skymaster offer standard plastic and kevlar fuel tanks.
This is a one year back additional option because when I got my first F-16, the only option was Kevlar fuel tanks.
My F-16 has 2 Kevlar 1 Lt tanks and one Sullivan 16 Oz. plastic tank plus plastic UAT
Kevlar is heat resistant in case of an internal fire but for crash purposes, many people agree that plastic tanks are more resistant to impact, because although kevlar is more resistant than plastic, Kevlar tanks are made in halves and in a crash, Kevlar tanks will split.
Let the thread flow.Youwill be rewarded with knowledge......

Just an FYI.
The Skymaster 1/8 F-16 comes standard with Fiberglass tanks not plastic. The Kevlar tanks hold up better over time and they don’t expand and retract as much during fueling and de-fueling.

Thanks Guillo! I havn't upgraded to kevlar tanks yet. I only took the stock option while i am mulling the upgrade. I also read that kevlar tanks may cause static issues leading to flame outs.
Jeff - i'll ask skymaster on the tanks. On the website it looked like plastic tanks were stock.

RE: Kevlar Tanks or not?
Hello friends:
I think that the Kevlar is very expensive for the use that you make of the tank. If you think that the coca-cola 2L is very suitable for models like Roo, Hotspot and similar models, why spend the money in something so expensive.
The fiber glass is strong enought for the kero tanks. I make my kero tanks in fiber glass and run perfect.
Regards from Spain.
Carlos.
