Hello

I have a Byron F-18 that I would like to convert to EDF.
I'm sure that someone tried this before! So what is the optimal set up?

I'm looking for a single engine system(like the original IC).

Any imput iis appreciated!

Tam Jets is coming out with a 120mm fan that should be right up your alley
if you go to www.rcgroups.com they have a lot of info on EDF's and different
motor and fan combo's. You have to be able to get passed the hyped up
motor and fans though and get some actual test data from real customers.
Some of the manufacturers are like badgers they claim their product is so great
but then they don't have anything in stock at events. Tam has been the best at posting
videos and working long hours to get it right. Just my opinion...

As P.Richards said, This is all the info you need.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...ighlight=byron

If you look at the EDF forum, there are lots of threads on 120mm fans (byron sized)

Also check out the XPS products. A lot of guys are having great success with their fans and packs.

Thanks

dave

That stuff is for smaller size EDFs. Tam BVM or XPS is your best bet. I bet twin stumax fans would be nice also and have a great sound.

ejf.com has an conversion for the stock Byron's fan. From what I hear, it works great. It will not boost your top end much, but the raw thrust numbers go up greatly which you will need for your plane.

I didn't see anything that says "Byron". I guess I'm blind. But, I thought Byron went out of business years ago?

Andy,

Byron did go out of business quite a while ago, but there is still a lot of Byron stuff floating around.
I am at work so I don't have access to any pics, but if memory serves the Byron was about the same size as a YA F-15 (85-86 inches long)
They did not offer scale gear for it (mains were straight struts)
The only one I ever saw fly was very underpowered with the Byron fan and OS.91.

Hi Andy,

My post was about the OP's question. I only have a few posts I'm not so forum savy, the reply is automatic if you don't choose to whom you are addressing. I was addressing anyone about the TF 8000 being a drop-in replacement for a Byron fan.

On the page for the [link=http://www.ductedfans.com/Turbo_Fan_8000_Ductedfanscom.html]TF 8000[/link]TF 8000 it does say "What to do with TF 8000. The TF 8000 is a good fan replacement for Byron units".

The Byron F-18 is a large heavy jet. Even though the Byron e conversion is a good cheap fan (I have 2 of them) and they can put out more power than the OS91 glow setup, I would go with one of the Dynamax conversions.......one of them would give the '18 much more life.

The Byron EDF conversion is good but the Dynamax EDF is better! I'm using a XPS Dynamax in a PST Turbine Panther EDF conversion.
