Flaps...
Terribly did the horn installation in the wrong way... need o think about the fix.
I did shortened the horns. It worked.
Also I needed to do new slots in the wing trailing edge in order to have the flaps correctly alinged. If installed in the original ones the flaps would stay a bit deflected.

I have recently installed the flaps on my Elan.....also came across the poor alignment problem.
The slots in the flaps themselves are in the correct position, but completely wrong in the trailing edge of the wing !
I used pinned hinges for the flaps. I installed one half of the hinge into the flap, then painted thehinge with ink, and pushed the flap onto the wing. The ink leaves a mark on the wing for the correct position of the slot.
I then cut the slots in the wing with a dremel cutting disk, and opened out with a thin flat file.

I used Robart pin hinges on the flaps as most others early in the thread had done, after fitting drilled a hole in the end of the stub wing to expose the pin hinges and Hysoled them on the inside of the stub wing, and yes the slots on the TE of the stub wing where misaligned so the flap would have stuck up into the airflow at the front in the closed position.

Some other pictures of flap installation. I'm using DS821 sevos for flaps. Once installed in the servo trays the servo arms didn't aligned with the flap horn. I will need to add some ball link or similar thing.
Also I had to remove some material in the tray opening since the botton of the sero was interfering with the wing skin.

Smoke system....
Here is something to share with you since I still don't see a such solution and would like to see comments. I did install two tanks for smoke fluid (12 and 14 ounces, total of 26) below the main wooden tray. Usually this room is for routing cables or instaling pumps/valves or installing batteries.
I think I will find room for everything and all cabling coming from back towards to the nose can be laterally routed (side of the smoke fluid tanks).
The tanks are installed in series.

Main landing gear.
I will use the Dreamworks combo set from my Sprint (Taurus series retracts) but 1/2" struts from Robart. Some Dremel work was required to fit the retracts to the wing.

Intairco wheels are very heavy compared to others on the market, if you want to save some weight that is, I had a three cell A123 in between the wheel wells and two A123 two cell batteries under the tank to balance without lead, the ideal balance point is for the airframe to just sit down on its rear boom skids and very gently tip forward, the manual C of G is very conservative and needs lots of down in inverted, just some info you may not know.

The balance point I posted above was with trailing link legs, so you may be a little forward of the pivot point with the Robart straight legs.

No I mean you may have to compensate for the fact you are pivoting forward of the point I used and would therefore have a more forward C of G than I had, so balance with the tail booms on the skids and a little more force needed to get the fus onto the main wheel, but if you balance on your main wheels first you will be in the right ball park to start with and then play with the C of G until you are happy.

Some people notice it other don't, it all accords if you have flown pattern and are used to a perfectly trimmed airframe, what you may notice if you have to land early the elevator will need a big pull to get the nose up for a good flair, you may have more of a problem with all that smoke fluid on board it will be very heavy on an aborted take off.

You may wish to consider zip tying the harness's to the formers to stop them moving and chafing against them, worth putting some split tubing around them for added protection under the zip tie.

Those retract units are much better suited to elan cutouts, I have just fitted Jet 1A's to one with a VT80 and they fit easy too, much better than the prolynx I spent 2days making fit in the past.
Like the placement of the smoke tanks good way of doing it. Have to remember that for the future!

They do say to keep the ecu away from the pump which is an electric motor obviously as well, but what about the VT80 which has the ECU built into the turbine?
I don't think there would be any issue as the starter is only used at startup and shutdown anyway.
