You gonna make some gear for it Todd? I hope so...

RE: The new Tornado sport jet

Got a short fun little test flight in on one of our tornados yesterday. I had a good time with her :) Need to go home and beef up the main gear blocks a bit. Add some Hysol and tri stock to them. They stock glue/install is really just poor on those. I think if I landed any harder (couldn't have landed much softer) they would have ripped right out. Right now the blocks are completely loose and the sheeting above them was starting to pull up. I'm sure I could have gotten away with a quick fix at the field but I just never care to rush things and it's nothing some hysol and some extra wood can't make better :) Other then that shortfall it grooved along nicely in the sky. Needed minor trim adjustments and that was about it :) Once we take care of the main gear blocks (purchased two of these birds and didn't fly the 2nd after seeing how easily the blocks pop loose) we will be sure to get out and put a lot more flights on them ! Didn't change much on this plane but I'll try and share a few photos of our setups later if anyone is interested.

Great plane for a short runway. This test flight was done off a a new 300ft runway that we put down a few months ago. It's a geotextile US230 fabric. Pretty cool stuff for the price if you ask me !

Hey, anyone else have any issues with the Springair brakes? Have full 100 psi air and "T"ing the brake line prior to the gear valve...using DW airline but only 1 tank.  Brakes barely grabbing...<div>

What valve you using?

UP6 on the brakes...spring air valve on the gear.  Never had an issue before with a UP6 so assuming that is not the issue.  Its new out of the box ...

RE: The new Tornado sport jet

Yup...they were greased and needed to be inflated a few times with the gear off...without all the grease they are working much better!  Thx for the help!

Ok so I balanced it at 12.75 in aft of the LE, but I also weighed the nose gear with the mains supported level...came up with 2.0 lbs vice the 1.5 in the manual.  Anyone else do both methods?

Hi guys!!
Recently I found a final seller that show me some pictures related as a Tornado Modellbau V4. I am not sure at all cause I couldn`t find any report in the net or Modellbau advertisement. Anyone there hear about it? Possible some pictures? Thank you. Isaac

I balanced mine with the scale at about 1.5lbs and then checked the cg at the wing and it was pretty close to the 12.75 back mark. Mine will be test flown at the end of the week.

I think there is just an old & new version of V3. IDK why Modellbau didn't designated the newest version as V4. There are differences/ improvements on the latest version. Post pics, easiest way to tell is the scheme

I saw red, white and grey color scheme as well as hidden servos for rudder and elevator. May be they define the last version 3 or V4...Anyway thank you very much. Isaac

RE: The new Tornado sport jet

I have a version with composite/carbon tail booms and alot of carbon used in the build up process of the wings..i was not aware that the booms were done in a composite lay up..

Also, has many people flown this jet with a P-80? That is the motor i have for this jet and hope it will be ok.

Looking forward to getting this one on the bench!

Cole

I had a P80 in my original Falcon 120, to be honest its too big and heavy to make the whole thing worth while, the weight at the back has to be offset by even more weight at the front, sell the P80 and get a more modern turbine that spools up faster, you could have a cup of tea waiting for the P80 to get to full power from tick over.

No one has the new nose strut length?

RE: The new Tornado sport jet

Todd

The best I can do is to tell you they need shortening by an inch to bring the old oleos into the centre of the new version 3/4 wing wheel well opening, presumably the nose leg needs shortening the same amount or a little more to keep the proportions the same.

Tried to download some pics of the new fus with the old oleos in place, but RCU is not co-operating at the moment.

Hi Mike,
yes, I assumed this as well but wanted to confirm nothing changed in the mounting that would effect the length further?

RE: The new Tornado sport jet

Comparing the Falcon 120 that I still have and the Mk3/4 nothing has changed, the front oleo and wheel still stick out the bottom of the fus if you use a straight leg, unless you modify the mounting yourself with a few shims.
