Cant believe I got a drop of ca on canopy. What to do??

If you have a range of wet n Dry paper going down to 2000grit, clean off as much as possible, rub it down (wet) with 400, then 600, 800, 1000, 1200 etc and finally polish with a car polish. If you want a perfect finish use Micro Mesh to finish before you polish...

Dave is on the money with this one. We just had to polish a Bandit canopy. Worked very well.

nitro or debonder?? not sure if nitro will attack the canopy itself though. it definately romoves CA

I thought about nitro too. try it on a scrap piece first just to be sure.

Yea, Acetone will melt it, ... but, if you let it re-harden and use the polish method (either sanding with up to 2000 grit and then polishing or the plastic polish above), you can fix that too. You'd be surprised at what you can get out with polishing...

There are very few clear plastics that take the CA remover type liquids. Sanding is the best option, when you first attack it you will go Oh-No! but work through it, larger area than you need to stop there being a 'dimple' left which you will see in some light.

As long as we're on the subject, what's your best method for cleaning off dry RC-56 off a canopy?

Water before it drys ;)

The day after you can roll it off with your finger, the rubbing heats it enough. Dry I've not tried. Methanol?

After the polish job, shoot a coat of clear on it. Any of the PPG Acrylic Urethanes will do a great job and will help protect it from further scratching.
Use DCU 2020, DCU 2021, etc.

Hi Harley, Quick question, I have always wanted to try the clear on a canopy, but never have had the nerve. Anyway How much do you thin the 2020 to shoot a canopy?? Scotty

After sanding it down thru 2000 grit wet or dry, apply a coat of FUTURE floor polish. Works great!

Thin it per the directions, and check it on a piece of scrap.
Thin it in very small increments if you determine it is too thick.
Do not thin it too much, or you will be risking a run or sag. Shoot just enough material to get a thin glossy coat.

Thanks Harley, Just put a new canopy in my KingCat and will try this to help keep the new canopy shine. Seems like most of the damage is hangar rash and such-more than once on startup the wind has blown the canopy off the wing and it always lands on the top!!. Scotty

This trick has worked for me every time; Take a piece of paper towel and fold it over on itself so that you have two layers. Saturate it with 30% heli or car fuel. Place it over the boo-boo. After an hour or so, attempt to wipe off the CA with the paper towel/fuel. Keep doing this until you get the last of the CA off. It will take multiple applications. If you catch it right away, it will come off much quicker than if you let the CA cure for days. Occasionally the fuel will cloud the canopy a bit. Just polish it with a soft wet rag and toothpaste.
