Battery Question
Hello!
I'd like to use a dual battery setup in my Jetmach 60. The engine I'm running is a JC BEE II KS. The Turbine Manual says to use a 5cell 6 volt battery for the receiver. What's the best way to plug the Dual batteries into the receiver? (Ar7000) Do I use 2 switches etc?? Could I use a lipos with a regulator the same way? Thanks |
RE: Battery Question
One battery gets plugged into the normal battery port. The second battery can be plugged into any unused channel. If you don't have a spare channel it can be connected to any channel with a Y. Both batteries need to be 5cell and on its own charging switch.
See http://hangtimes.com/parallel_packs.html Yes, you can do the same with two Lipos. Each battery would need its own switch and regulator. I'd suggest using nicads or A123's and no regulator. Joe |

Bat Share. Don't leave home without it. Best thing to ever happen for a set-up like your wanting to do!!! I have several and love them.

RE: Battery Question
Really would like to go with A123 but they're not recommended them for Kerostart?

RE: Battery Question
That thread is referring to the ECU battery. Use what came with the engine, or a Lipo.
Your initial question was about receiver batteries. Joe |
RE: Battery Question
oh ok! didn't realize that. So I could use A123 for the reciever , even though that JC recommends 6 volt?

RE: Battery Question
A 2 cell A123 is rated at 6.6 volts and will work fine as a receiver battery without a regulator.
Everybody has their favorite battery set-up and I don't wish to start a battery war here, but I use 5 cell nicads in all my planes and am in no hurry to try A123's. They cost about twice as much and weigh about half as much as nicads. A friend crashed because he was using a battery chemistry he wasn't familiar with. If this is your first jet and you don't already have an A123 capable charger I would recommend sticking with nicads, you'll have enough of a learning curve with everything else. You shouldn't need a lot of battery capacity batteries on a plane like the Jetmach 60. Joe |
