Gyro Question???
 

Have a question that hopefully someone can help..

Was out flying today for the first time this season and on take off I over corrected any my jet kicked out sideways like it was a subaru rally car..first time I have experienced this, and of course it makes me a little nervous now. I was just lucky we were on a very large runway. I was thinking of adding a gyro but my rudder and nose gear are on their own channel and mixed, and I dont want to add a Y lead.

What would be a good gyro for this application?? I know the ACT Fuzzy is an option but a bit $$$..

Can I just add one in between the nose gear servo and the receiver even though its mixed to another channel ( Rudder )??

Is there one that can go to both in this set up?? I guess it doesnt hurt to have it on the rudder also. I could change the gain on gear down or up.

And yes I have the front gear on a low rate, I would just feel more comfortable with one..Some of the places I am going this year are not as wide as where I was today..Any help out here guys..Thanks..

An ACT Fuzzy is too expensive and usually used for ailerons or elevators because these GYROS control 2 servos. In my airplanes I use a plain (and cheap but very reliable) FUTABA GY240

Yes, this is very common, and this is how I've done it. The nose gear gyro does not affect the rudder itself.

No need to do this. I would suggest you to buy the plain GY240 gyro and set it to 100% gain but with AVCS off (set at normal mode). You'll find there is no need to change the gyro gain up and down all the time. One setting at all will do the job better than you can imagine.

And in any case whatever your decision is with any gyro you may buy and install do not set it to AVCS (heading hold mode). Should you do this your front gear will never come down during landing (gear down process) because the front wheel servo will definitely be offset.

I need something that is coin to run on 6v with no regulator. Any ideas?? Would the jr 270 be a candidate?

The ACT Fuzzy is extremely expensive, but you really get what you pay for. They do control two servos, like rudder and nose wheel, ailerons, and elevators. You want to see a plane fly on rails.....put an ACT Fuzzy Pro SMM gyro on it.

I think yes its possible with this JR although I run my GY240 on 6V, with no issues at all. If there is an issue you can also use a Duralite voltage step-down https://duraliteflightsystems.com/ac...product_id=120 in line with the gyro.

Attached is a picture of one of my installations.

You'll see I have 2 gyros there. The GY240 for the nose wheel and an ACT FUZZY for the ailerons.

Gyros work fine on 6 volts normal in a helicopter its the servo that cannot handle 6 volts

hey Tassos I have a 14mz and plan on running dual receivers on a powerbox like this are you running each receiver on battery or does the power box do that for you? Also with all that carbon in there have you ever had any issues with blackout? I fly helis and you have to be careful about receiver ant placement due to the carbon frame blackout. I have been scared to make a carbon plate to mount everything for this very reason.

What are the tree boxes above the power box with airlines coming from them?

Hello there,

yes you're right. It's been so long since I last built a heli I forgot a few things

I have a 14mzhp for my planes. great radio, great reliability, millions of potential settings. And for jets it is best to use a heli radio because you need the throttle stick to move freely without steps. This powerbox is the top end of the products of powerbox ( http://www.powerbox-systems.de/e/pow...oyal/start.php ). It does a few jobs the most basic of which is that for power availability it takes 2 power inputs and gives a steady 5,9 or 7,4V output voltage for the servos. It also gives a steady 5V to both receivers. The bad thing about it is that it can handle only 7 input channels. For the rest (usually in a jet you need 12-13 channels) you plug directly on one of the receivers. The secondary channels are usually the brakes, smoke, steering, retracts, lights etc which are not of primary importance. There are alot of other things it can do to make your flying machine more reliable, more robust and more safe to fly.

No issues at all with radio link, never.

THanks! Yeah I like the power box and since you only need the control surface servos ran to the powerbox it would not be an issue to plug the others straight in. Im actually thinking about using a smart fly but have not made up my mind. Thanks for responding nice clean setup!
