I was wondering what you guys think of these engines. I'm contemplating on purchasing an engine and i wanted to see how is their reliability, warranty, and service.
I would greatly appreciate any comments. Thanks |

RE: KingTech Engines
Thanks a lot. I'll look into it further. Do you have a kingtech engine Steve?
|
RE: KingTech Engines
I have 2 and they run great. There are several in my area and all are performing wonderfully. I do like the hausel pumps better than flightworks. That is the only thing I will say that needed improvement and I think they all come that way now.

RE: KingTech Engines
I have just recently gotten into jets ( last year and a half ) and had no prior loyalties to any of the engine mfg'rs. I have had experience with about 6 jetcats, 4 jet centrals, and close to 10 kingtech's, and that is personal experience not to mention the other 8 club members with various engines.
Service : Barry has been great to deal with, if he does'nt answer the phone he will call you back. Eric at Jet central is great also, will take care of you. Jetcat they seem to be good to deal with on the phone and will help out but as far as engine service - have your check book open. The Kingtech engines run as good if not make more power than the comparable mfg'rs. The spool up is fantastic which makes the flyability better. They are new on the block and it looks like they are weeding out suppliers on the ancilary items but will handle any problem without drama. just my .02 |

RE: KingTech Engines
Mine came with Hausel (140) and it was in the first kerostart 140 batch. So far no issues. I did heat shrink my pump and secure the wires. They look soldered well but I like to minimize any failure points if I can see them. We have three kingtechs at our field two 140's and a 170 and all seems good. I run on jet-a and a friend is going from Kero to diesel now that he changed to a three cell pack. One of the 140's is in a bandit.... Fun... Skids locked brakes at takeoff weight at 2/3 throttle. Just fun. I just picked up an old baby boomer for touch and go fun and it is screaming for a k80. Unless a k100 gets rumored. It flew great on a p60 and really nice on a p70 but the lag time took some fun out of a lot of maneuvers no matter how far ahead I was. All good.
My advice to the OP is just go for it and start focusing on all the stuff that will cause you headaches. I.e. Retracts. I don't care how well made they are they all need constant inspection and upkeep especially if you are on unpaved or poorly paved surfaces. Take the money you save in the power plant department and put it into undercarriage and good valves and lines and fittings. |
RE: KingTech Engines
Excellent advice!

RE: KingTech Engines
I have a 140f in a Tours. It has over 40 flights and over 40 starts without any problem and plenty of thrust. If you set it up with Half Expo the responce is fast no delay. You must prime both fuel lines before starting.
|
RE: KingTech Engines
What matter to me is thrust :D and kingtech delivered ;). Save me from messing with it.
P.S Andy put two of them in that A10 |
RE: KingTech Engines
Stan,
Had issues with idle not going down and holding and full throttle not getting to max. The said it was sticking pump and after the change I have had no issues. |
RE: KingTech Engines
I echo the recommendations. I have owned two of them the K-80 and I just got a brand new 140 this week. I have yet to run it, but the performance of the K-80 was very good. I had a few initial problems with the fuel pump, but Barry and his team took care of that. He is a good guy to deal with, as well as others in this field, but for the price these engines cannot be beat. I saw Andy Andrews fly his turbines everyday at the WJM with a Kingtech turbine and never missed a flight. Jason Bauer on the US team was flying a Kingtech turbine with no issues, and the Tiawan team were also using Kingtech turbines. During the WJM, I did not witness any incidences of engine failures nor failed starts from any of these planes. It was hot, humid, and the conditions were less than ideal for performance. I think you could do a lot worse.

<span style="font-size: medium">Yea and one can go to: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10677820/tm.htm and obtainaK-170Fat a very speical price...ck it out!!! I'm running a pair of 140s Kero Start without any issues.</span> |
RE: KingTech Engines
Thanks Kevin,
After checking, my new 170 (kero start) came with the Hausel pump. I have not ran it yet but am about to mount it on a board. I will post my results when I do. Stan |
RE: KingTech Engines
Andy
Great engines. I own 2 a K-80 and a K-140. I have 12.5 hours on the K-80 in my F-86 and I just started flying the K-140 in my F-15 about 2 months ago and the engines both run solid. Barry Hou at WWW.Kingtechusa.com is top notch If any service is required and he does all service here in the U.S. No need to ship out of the country for service. RE: KingTech Engines
i am not bashing all the Jetcats i have and will continue to buy them cause of same reason most do they already have a few and learned to diagnose them and Wilcox has helped me many times but i will say i bought a K-170 doing L.A Jets auction and didn,t get a chance to use it before selling it..Now wish i kept it i have personally flown K-170 in my FlyEagle F-86 then took it out to give to owner Lowel then flew with P-160 and flew the same but was impressed by half throttle flight K-170 compared to pretty much full throttle on P-160..now the 160 i had was 34 lbs thrust but don,t believe i should have seen top end difference of that much...My 160 flies my F-4 great and will continue to use it but i was very inpressed with startup throttle response and power Kingtech has...AND Barry is also very helpful and available at all times

RE: KingTech Engines
ORIGINAL: andy09776 Thanks a lot. I'll look into it further. Do you have a kingtech engine Steve? Unfortunately, no I don't own one yet. However, after all the reading I've done on them, KingTech will definately be my next turbine(s). My Plan, after saving up my pennies, is to get a 140 for my Y/A F-15 and a 170 for my 1/6 scale F-16. Good luck with your choice. Steve |
RE: KingTech Engines
Thanks for the feedback guys. I think this has made my decision more clearer.
Thanks |
RE: KingTech Engines
HI GUYS
I allways run a new pump for 15-20 minutes before I put it into a plane much the same as running a new turbine on a test bench and have never had an issue. Mav. K80 140 170 owner |

Barry is GREAT!!

RE: KingTech Engines
Are you supposed to run the fuel pump under water for a few minutes to get it to seat prperly?
|
RE: KingTech Engines
This is starting to look like a board meeting when Bill Gates didnt think Steve Jobs was a threat after they parted company in the 70's and Jobs founded Apple...
Keep it up guys, with customer service, pricing and as people build trust in your turbine reliability the sky is the limit... bad pun. Seeing a lot of diehards jump **** from Purple. They are both great but at the end of the day in our current world, if it works and is reliable cost will win 90 percent of the time. |
