Best scale jet
What jet (arf/kit) out there is the most scale looking and has all the scale parts. IE: best landing gear, best brakes, best flight controls, most panel lines and best cockpit for around 5-10,000 Dollars?

RE: Best scale jet
I would like to know this as well, for f-18 and f-16 1/6 or bigger :D

I own one of the best scale jets out there ( I think in my own opinion) it would hands down have to be the BVM F-100D or F-100F model. I have been flying my F-100D all summer long and it is just a dream to build and fly, it handles like a sport jet in the air. The take-off's and landings are so predictable and the flying characteristcs are smooth as glass. This is my first scale jet that i have owned and i would'nt trade it or sell it. The other option is a BVM F-86 which i also own one of.

RE: Best scale jet
The BVM F-100 (D or F) was going to be my suggestion - although be ready for some serious building and serious $'s. The Skymaster 1/6 F-16 is a good option - Dan Gill has the scale parts to trick it out (including a variable nozzle).

RE: Best scale jet
Hey Bob, what do you mean serious, building. I had mine built in three weeks. I'm now doing the serious part of finishing it in flight-metal. I would load some pix of it but i keep getting some stupid server error everytime i try to.

RE: Best scale jet
I like the Skymaster F4. I think the flying characteristics are just unbelievable! The BV Hun (F100) is probably my 2nd choice, but you can forget about getting that done for 5-10K.. It's probably twice the price if not a little bit more than the SM F-4.. But BV's Hun (especially in fliteMetal) makes me salivate, & flies awesome too.. anything BV flies awesome

The Yellow Aircraft 1/7 scale F-18C, in the prepainted (ARF) state is around $8 - 8.5K for "go fly" (all gear, tanks, accessories). Great flyer, beautiful detailing .. they are essentially hand-built + painted kits should also be a contender for best scale jet in this price range. Not to take anything away from the other suggestions, of course, just adding one.
You can add the Glennis wheels + brakes and the fancy Dan Gill lighted cockpit and Dan's lighting setup (I did!) and still be in your price bracket. I agree that the BVM F-100 is awesome .. and also agree it's not doable for this price range. The Yellow prepainted planes are waaay nicer than the Skymaster ones (which are perfectly ok) .. but one is 5-6K "go fly" the other is 8K .. so you choose your market point. Mine is single engine/bifurcated pipe .. but they also offer it set up for two motors. With the new small 100-class motors (Wren 100, JetCat P100, BF-100) this becomes a practical 2-engine plane too. ORIGINAL: Greg Wright Hey Bob, what do you mean serious, building. I had mine built in three weeks. You're probably a lot faster than me, but with all of the scale details (I made all of the inlet vents functional, etc.) and adding all of Dan Gill's upgrades, building the one I did to the point of finishing took about a year... WW2Birds, I can't find that f18c on there website. I am deciding b/w Yellow and FEJ.
Carlos here are picks of the f-14 & one of the mig 29. I have some more pics of mymig 29 on my mig thread. The last pic is of the landing gear support. It is pretty hefty! This is the new honeycomb. Sorry i put these pic in the wrong thread! |

RE: Best scale jet
The large Yellow F-18 is called the "twin" (since it originally used two DFs) on their website. But for the prepainted ones you need to call Charles at Yellow in Massachusetts or Shaun (yellowaircraft on RCU).

Most of the European stuff.
Scalejets Mibo Avonds Skygate Tomahawk Airworld etc plus C-ARF's Museum scale models Mig15, Mig29, A4 etc |
RE: Best scale jet
Thanks WW2Birds,
I want one in a diamond back scheme! |
RE: Best scale jet
The Comp-ARF A-4 looks pretty darn good, but might be over-budget re. the OP's range.

RE: Best scale jet
I plan to run a Kint tech engine NEW or a Zero hour used engine. I would really like a F-15 that has scale gear and so on. I like the F-18 above but dont like the look of the Turkey feathers ( engine exhaust cones ). I remember someone making some working turkey feathers for our jets. Any one remember who made them? i dont have that much cash right now but was thinking of getting an air frame and start building then work on getting the engine latter along with electronics. i plane to run the High end JR servos on all flight controls and Hitecs on other secondary items.
What F-15 out there has a very scale gear for it? |

Take a look at the Yellow Aircraft F-22. Beautiful f/g work, landing gear that would support a truck. I fly mine hard and it takes it. It flies fast, slow and is a rough and tumble jet. Fly down initial just like the real thing, break, gear down, 1/2 flaps, full flaps at the final turn. Pull it around set the landing attitude and then watch it land. Mine has a Rhino and vectored thrust, will accelerate going straight up. It is now the jet I will always have in my collection.

JMP T-33. Is a nice project....

RE: Best scale jet
Well, fairly simple answer.
Look at the Jets World Master and pick the very top of the list. The Aviator Yak not being for sale, then comes the GDS Models G-91, 1/3.3 scale. Next in the list is the Skygate Collection Hawk, followed by the Airworld/GDS Models MB-339. All these models are 1/3.3 ish and can be purchased for the money you mentioned with more or less options. |

RE: Best scale jet
Another vote for the BVM F-100 D or F, personally I like the F (since I have one) it is one of the best flying scale jets out there. It can go fast, or slow, and is solid in the pattern.

RE: Best scale jet
I do like the F-22 also. many options out there. Not looking for all out speed or extreme vertical. I dont plan to compete with it either. Just a great looking scale jet. i see on that F-22 that i might be able to put torque rods on the rudders and might be able to hide the servos and linkages. Is there room under them for a 8711?
I have been looking to build a scale plane prop or jet for awhile. I also like the F-7F tigercat but the only good scale one is the 3W one and its a very big plane. The ESM one is smaller at 85" and 30lbs but isnt near as scale. I know many other scale props out there but looking for a new area and thinking a jet would be great. i have been flying for over 34 years. I can fly anything lol. i have already talk to guys at the field for getting a Waiver and they said I will have no problem at all. I would build the jet so as to try to hide all control horns and push rods if possible. The F-22 and F-15 would be very easy to do, well atleast i think it would. i will keep looking and put a plan together. I will also gol ook at the F-100. For old jets i do like the F-101 Voodo also or a F-105 Thud. |
