STARJET Centre of Gravity???

I am just setting up my new/old/ Retro Aviation Design StarJet to fly. Does anyone remember, or know of the correct centre of gravity on this classic?

Thanks in advance. Regards Al

Paul told me Geb Jones has a new kit still in the box, may be worth giving him a call as it would have the build manual in.

Did you fly yours yet?? Do you have any pics??

I just got one... and it's 99% ready to go. I just need to do a little rigging, and put in my engine. I ordered some stuff from DeamWorks... and I figure I will finish the build next weekend.

Thanks. This thing is tight... and I'd like to see how you got it all in, and where the engine mounts. (since the modern engines have a much shorter rear nozzle compared to the old JPX)

Also... what did you use for a fuel tank? I read somewhere that you can squeeze in a 2L soda bottle... but I don't know how.

Here is my install-The rx does fit in square-its just on velcro-so will move that straight later.

Thanks. Yep... It's tight.

Do you have any pics of your engine mounted? I'm not sure how far back I should try to mount it.

yes will take a picture tomorrow-with a measurement.

RE: STARJET Centre of Gravity???

Thanks. That will help a lot.

I think I will be able to get 70oz of fuel in this thing. A 1.5l (50oz) Fiji water bottle fits up front nice... and a 20oz dubro fits behind it, and tucks in between the intake. The only draw back I see right now is the bulk of the fuel is forward of the CG. But... I guess that's just how this model has to be. Since I'm probably going to use 2 tanks... I'll drink the front tank first so the CG gets closer to "ideal" as I burn fuel.

Thanks for the pics.

Looks like you have it pretty far forward. Are you just using the aluminum tube from the kit? (no other jet-pipe?)

Is that a P-60?

agent adds 10-10-2012 12:15 PM

RE: STARJET Centre of Gravity???

It is a p-60 and i was giving by the builder-Mr David Gladwin Gladwin..........A special start up tail pipe -just slots on the back.

Dr Honda 10-10-2012 04:34 PM

RE: STARJET Centre of Gravity???

I was thinking about a start-up pipe. But, I'm still worried about the factory aluminum insert. I guess I just need to keep a fire extinguisher close on the test starts.

I originally thought I read you were putting in a 100N engine. So... I was wondering about the engine. I just dropped my engine into the bay... and it's snug. I'm using a JC Falcon 100. I know... before anyone yells at me.... I'm going to turn it down to 1:1 max. It's still lighter than the JPX.

Thanks for the pics, and the info. I think I'll start my own thread so I don't pollute this one too badly.

agent adds 10-10-2012 06:15 PM

RE: STARJET Centre of Gravity???

Dont worry stay on here-The start up point is critical-any wet starts and your tail will drop off-nasty!!
