Multilight Promgramming HELP!
 

Anyone out there a dab hand at programming the Multilight units? It's killing me!!! Trying to achieve the following.......

Red wingtip light - to stay on all the time
Green wingtip light - to stay on all the time
White Tail light - to stay on all the time

Red strobe under fuselage - to flash all the time
Red strobe on tail - to flash all the time
White strobe on top of fuselage - to flash all the time

Landing light - to come on when gear is down

PLEASE - someone out there must know how to program these damn things - right now my workshop looks like a bad rave with lights incorrectly flashing all over the place LOL [>:]

Hi Marc,

I won't say I'm a dab hand but I have successfully set up this system on my L39.

It can be quite daunting at first and requires that the instructions are read through multiple times before it all actually sinks in.

It may be easier to ask what exactly you have done to set them up at this stage.

I have nav and strobes switched on my side slider switch, off, nav at centre then nav and strobes on full movement. Landing lights are y'd into my powerbox flap channel and switch on automatically on take off or full flap and are off with no flaps. This way there is less to think about when setting up for landing.

Don't even think about connecting the lights to the board until you have the correct programming set up using the throttle channel,

Damn!! I've soldered all the lights on as I thought I could just program each channel!

Also, I don't think it makes any difference but I have set it up for programming on a rotary knob switch to give +/-100%

As for where I am now? Buggered!! I've tried all sorts LOL

Can you explain how to reset things so I can start again?? I don't even get how I'm supposed to do that :-(

I'll dig the instructions out mate but for programming the light connector must NOT be plugged in, I used a multimeter to check the correct outputs were working.

Rotary knob is fine.

When you program, the red lights on the unit indicate which channels will become active (solid red and flashing for strobe) and you then solder the wires to correspond.

My guess is that you have wired incorrectly from my experience.

p.s. Reading your reply again if you have programmed using the rotary I don't think it will work correctly, you are supposed to program the needed sequence using the throttle channel. That could be your problem!

After it's all programmed and connected up you can then use the rotary Tx channel for switching control.

Right, to reset depress both programming buttons and then apply power to the unit via the mpx.

You need to then set up via throttle channel as per page 1, in your case you need (page2) pos'n flasher (3) nav lights (3) and headlights (2) This is the third option down under "Functions by first step can be selected"

If done correctly you will find that the switching output channels on the socket are as follows:-

L/lights 7 & 8
Nav 4,5 & 6
Strobes 1,2 & 3

A word of warning, use only a regulated voltage of 5.9 volts in the jet otherwise you will blow it up! That's why I pull my power (channels) off a powerbox, make sure therefore that you are using decent capacity flight packs, I use two 6V sub c nimh's.

I have the new V7 unit that runs off 2s Lipo. The unit is plugged into my Powerbox via one of leads. It says don't use both leads then seems to mention use of it? Do you use 1 or 2 leads? Finally, does the unit switch off with the RX or do I need a switch.

Ahhh, that explains why yours has a big heat sink on it, mine's the previous version.

You would need both leads to operate the needed two channels. Power is supplied to the unit by the rc connection leads.

I don't personally use a switch as when the powerbox is off so is the lighting unit, I can't see any reason to use a seperate switch, personal choice I guess. Then again which powerbox are you using, is it SRS or are you using a completely seperate rx?

I'm using a Powerbox SRS.

Anyway, I just reset everything and hooked it up on the throttle channel. As I slowly move through the ratchet, I only see the following 3 'programs' indicated by the light sequence....

Ch 1 - 4 flash
Ch 1 - 4 flash and 5 & 6 come on solid
Ch 1 - 4 flash and 5 - 8 come on solid

None of which seem to be what I need?

The instructions seem to list 7 programs?!??! Why do they make it so hard [:@]

As you say, I need the Pos'n flasher (3), navi lights (3) and headlights (2) program but I can't get to it!! I assume I get to these programs as explained on Page 2 step 1, throttle to -100%, hold the 2 buttons down, wait for the lights to chase and then move the throttle stick until I see the right channel?

If successful, how would the correct program display lights wise? 1-3 flashing, 4-6 on solid, 7 & 8?? (solid)

I've got the same unit as yourself. I have it wired very simply. I have a separate 7.2v battery and an on/off switch. Some of the outputs are strobes and some are permanently on, so you solder the respective lights as appropriate. I do not use the two receiver output leads at all, but use the switch.

You're welcome Mark, yes it should be as you say, worth double checking you have 100℅ atv on the throttle channel, if still in trouble try upping it temporarily to see if you can bring in the other programs.
I think you should get about eight programs if it's like my multilight mini.
I do agree the broken anglo instructions take some working out but it's worth it in the end, they do work well.
