Landing at 5400 ft
There has been some discussion on landing at altitude. So I thought I would show a few takeoffs and landings on the short 550 ft runway at Chatfield State Park. This was at 5400 ft 68deg. 2 flights. Taken with a I phone.

Nice open field and nice landing ;) I can see myself taking off into a knife edge full circuit back to show center [8D]
With my fomie :) |
RE: Landing at 5400 ft
It's a whole other world flying at high altitudes. I know that when I go to California or somewhere I almost want to flinch when I see guys turning on final because I am used to falling out of the sky at such slow speeds. I guess if it was easy everybody would be doing it.
Thanks for sharing. |

This video is takeoffs, flying, & landing, shot at 5060 ft., density altitude approx. 7500ft. 800ft runway at Love-Air Ft. Collins, Co

RE: Landing at 5400 ft
I've heard it joked about that high altitude low air density flying is what separates the men from the boys, my response is " No it's what separates the men from the fish" lol

This video is from Colorado Jets last year. Below is the link for info for this year.

RE: Landing at 5400 ft
Wow, the WJM next year at the Meiringen Air Base is only 1900 ft. I just checked it after seeing this. I was thinking it would be higher elevation but it isn't from what I have found.

RE: Landing at 5400 ft
Andy it does make a difference, when the density altitude gets over 9000ft I won’t fly my hard to fly jets.

RE: Landing at 5400 ft
George is correct it is not apocalyptic but it is ...different on landing. I have noticed that the edf stuff is the biggest difference. I guess not as much air to move.
|
RE: Landing at 5400 ft
Ok I had to go to the dictionary on that one (apocalyptic)

RE: Landing at 5400 ft

which kit of the Camo F4E was in the Colorado jets video? BV, Skymaster?? hard to get the size perspective nice work |
RE: Landing at 5400 ft
the trick is to fly faster the higher you are. that can make for much faster landing and take off speeds.
