HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
1 Attachment(s)
Here's my little L59 with a Jetcat P20 installed. This was bought from Hobbyking for $230 shipped. The air frame isn't too bad.
I will edit this tomorrow with a ready to fly weight, but I'm estimating it at about 3.300gr empty. More photos coming soon.... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../thumbs_up.gif |
RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
I've read good things about the airframe as well. Seems HK's main problem is getting it shipped without incurring damage because of the poor packaging. Have they come to their senses and sent it double boxed?

RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
I may copy some of your install. Is that pipe a Single wall pipe?
|
RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
Hey thats not fair. I am at about the same point with mine also a P20. In my view this is the best P20 model yet

RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
The weight is 3,260 gr empty.I believe is a good weight for the size of the plane and for the P20 :D

RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
Hanz..Your weight is Very good! Mine is an EDF for the time being..but it weighs 7.6lbs without retracts, and flys amazingly well.
My only recommendation to you guys building this plane, is to glass the wings where they join top and bottom. You dont really want to trust some kids glue job or even the glue they used do you? There have been reports of the CMP Hawk wing separating at the wing joint. It comes pre-glued like the L-59 The flight envelope of the plane is simply amazing! Will do next to nothing in a 10khm wind or can be blisteringly fast on the downwind(edf) for a top speed of 165mph for my plane. Check out this video of how slow she can fly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_I13okGH4c Trevor |
RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
The only bit I am ascratching my head about at the moment is the Canopy and how to attach it so that it will be secure but also quick and easy to remove at the field

Check this out http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11.../anchor/tm.htm
If your P20 does the stated 5.25lb of thrust you still need too optimize your setup to keep the thrust when installed. It's very easy to reduce thrust if you install the pipe wrong. |
RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
The distance from the exhaust of turbine to the tail of the plane is almost 15 cm.The distance is very little so i install the exhaust just to protect the plane from the big heat and to align the exhaust gas. If it was up to me, not to install the pipe,i will not be install her just for weight matter! |
<span style="font-family:Comic Sans MS;"> Yes of course,i know that's is very easy to make 1lb of thrust vanish ,but I did not excuses my self. The exhaust is <u>12cm</u> long and the turbine gases are free flowing! I believe i have all of the 5.25lbs of thrust of my P20! </span> |
RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
I did the maiden today.Success!!!:)</p> The plane was very fast for the size of it! I'm very impressed!! Very stable in flight but very steep!</p> The control surface movements are too much in all surfaces. The manufacturer gives 15-20 mm on AIL and ELEV,me i have them on 15 mm but it was too much!Needs lower movements!</p> I think the best scale plane for the P20!!</p> |
RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
Glad you had a successful maiden.
What do you mean. 'Very Steep' |

Wonder how fast she's moving out. When people ask how it flys..I always tell them that its just a Super Fast Cessna:D |

RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
ORIGINAL: TimWatson Glad you had a successful maiden. What do you mean. 'Very Steep' How can i say that...bluntness,brusqueness! Thats, because of the big surface movements that the manufacturer gives. If i decreased them i believe that it will be fine! I didn't have the luck to do a second flight because the nose gear has broken. Very little glue on the nose gear reception.! Mavbe the chinese boy who build my plane had to go for break and drink sake!http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif |

Henke Hi
So what pipe distance was the end result for the P-20 CrocEnd |
RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
ORIGINAL: CrocEnd Henke Hi So what pipe distance was the end result for the P-20 CrocEnd We found it differs depending on which setup you run. Diameter and length of the pipe, bellmouth shape etc. If you want to optimize the setup the only way is to test it your self. As the test bench only costs €99 includeing all you need it's not much to argue about. Neither Grumanias, jetcats or Lamberts recomendations were the best in our testing. :) I have not tested a P20 yet but are soon to do so. Test were done with a Kolibri turbine. You can also use the test bench for making a linear thrust to stick throtthe curve. This was not right in our test. http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/2884/jetcattube.png |

RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
Had to put 5 oz (125 g) of lead in the very nose of mine to get it to balance. I had also put the P20 quite a way forward. The problem is the tail on this plane is quite heavy. I will weigh the all up dry weight in a moment
Just put her on her wheels and it is obvious that the CG in the manual looks wrong as it is very bouncy on the nose. I just read the trread on this plane on RC Groups and it says the cg should be 60 mm back at 240 mm and not as the manual which says 80 mm back at 240 mm. I thorefore opened up the nose from the bottom at the very front and put in another 110g of lead and that has done the trick. All I need now is some good weather Just weighed it and the all up dry weight with the header empty and no fuel but everything else included is 3.2 kg which is7 Lbs. I am quite pleased at this weight the EDF Boys seem to be comming in over 8lbs. I recon with the amount of wing area thatthe L59hasshe should fly well with a P20 (5.2 lbs of thrust) |

RE: HOBBYKING L59 for JETCAT P20
That EDF weight of 8Lb is probably with batteries as you have said your 7Lb weight is with no fuel on board, so possibly you are coming out at the same weight near enough.

I don't know though I have certainly lost a battery in flight from my EDF Habu, so it was lighter when it arrived. LOL
