how about a small metal gear servo, screw on its output. attach the pot to the wheels pivot.

dolly the whole lot up to look scale

I would try to move the servo feedback pot to the steering arm itself somehow. So the servo will drive until the wheel itself is centre. would still need air and leak free system.

Must not be going well at all, I see that Scott Marr sold his two A4's in the classified section a few weeks ago...:(

With all the bad press and lack of instructions, when my friend Eric Baugher passed away we sold his back unstarted to a composite ARF rep for a huge loss, since no one wants to deal with the problems this kit has just like the gear problems on the older Mig that was never resolved.

How does a company stay in business with practices like this?

my 2 cents. I guess issue is due to the displaced nose wheel being forward of the main "strut". If linear actuators and all other tries are a no-go then I say either engineer in there a gearing of the nose wheel to a center shaft running inside the main strut. Or forget the scale look and just go direct drive nose wheel to a shaft running inside the main strut. Shaft would allow the servo drive to be hidden up in the nose well somewhere. Both ideas require machining of course.

Guys !

Then CARF has to spend some of their Flash margins to cure my/our A-4 Skyhawk
steering issues !

For the money I spent on this bird without asking questions, I will increase the pressure to get a sollution - on the other hand we can ask if any of the existing A-4 customers has ever flown or tried to !!

Why should I spent hours of thinking on a 4000 EUR undercarriage – that’s my point.

So please don’t hide, come forward and tell me that I am totally wrong in my comments !

Peter that's just my point as well. Andreas should fix the problem instead of making it yours as a customer. History repeated it self becuase he can hide from everyone overseas just like he did on the Migs gear issue, but unforntunattly he already has your money just like before.

There is actually a fix in the works. In final testing stages. Andy and I went in on the fix. More details soon or I will let the engineer/designer come with details.

Probably because no one really wants a real solution to this problem?

Why you dont talk with likai, works to skymaster jets and is a landing gears design expert?

On a different thread someone stated he was not answering.

Andy,

If you drill a hole the steering cylinder (about the center of travel) and the master cylinder (also about the center of travel) you can put a fill port in the steering cylinder and a bleed port in the master cylinder. Then you should be able to fill the system from the lowest point (steering cylinder) and force the air out and up the pressure line (s) to the bleed port in the master cylinder for each direction of operation. The trick will be to not create a burr in the cylinders that the piston will hang on. Maybe JB weld the fittings to the outside of the cylinders

Just an idea,

See you at Kentucky,

Bob Neal

How much were they sold for???
Can't you just scrap this scale Idea, and place a retractable nose gear in the front instead? Or does this plane NEED to have the front end raise up for takeoff??
Or route some wires to run the steering?

Does everything else work on this plane? (does the front landing gear POP up to raise fron of plane reliably)?

RE: $1,000.00 bounty offered to fix COMP ARF A4 steering

I was reading Jim Hiller's Model Aviaiton Jet column in the current issue and see that Bob Bush now has a SM A4 (not a Comp Arf) with an extensive self designed hydraulic system powering several scale features. Perhaps speeking with Bob may be a helpfull resource of info for a possible solution for the Comp Arf A4 steering.

Just food for thought.
