FEJ Gulfstream G550 is ready!
The test flights are done and we are taking orders on them now. You can see all the details at flyeaglejet.com
under the Gulfstream. I have been working with them for over a year on this and I am happy to say all time and effort has paid off. The detail is beautiful and will fly with a full range of motors. I am having trouble posting pictures (as many of us are) but I will get James to put a few up tomorrow. Take a look at the web site....it's all there. Thanks, Lowell |
RE: FEJ Gulfstream G550 is ready!
Forgot to mention, the plane is 130" Long and 133" WS!
Will fly with P-80's thru K140's. The test model had P-80's and will be retro fitted with K140's and shipped to me in about 3 weeks. Can't wait to get my hands on it!! Lowell |

It's a floater Dantley! The thing fly's great and very predictable. Your right though...it is a bit big. But then again, big does fly better!!
It will be around here flying at the shows. You need to come down and check it out!! ;) Lowell |

RE: FEJ Gulfstream G550 is ready!
Seriously, get rid of that removable cockpit. It will never work for looks. Reminds me of the Top Flite DC-3. Everything else absoluely beautiful.

They need to fix the cockpit windows, they are just not right. I hope the critiques aren't taken wrongly, just some observations.

ORIGINAL: snobird Will it fly at Florida Jets 2013 Jeff, thanks. I can't wait to get it here. G4, no offense taken. We try to make it look as good as we can. Paint will help! Falcon, I think the paint will cover the lines. Thanks for the rest! Corndog2, bigger is better! It has a great presence in the air. David, I just ordered a bigger trailer!! Thanks to all. It's really great to have worked with FEJ on this project. They did more than I could have asked for. Thenk you James and the entire factory. Lowell |

ORIGINAL: mario tavarez14 Yes I am 100% with you they need to fix the window Its a good start, but to really be the best, the shape of the nose itself needs to be tweaked, the windows need to be shaped correctly, and the size of the vortex generators needs to be reduced... Bob |

Even though this is a G-IVSP, the cockpit windows and the cabin window spacing is the same on the G-550. The G-550 just has more of them. I hope to see these corrections, I would love to have a GulfStream of my own someday!

RE: FEJ Gulfstream G550 is ready!
I bet this thing could fly better on a lot less power than shown here. Not for any other reason than it would allow lighter weights, and it's not like you will miss the vertical in a 900 foot loop with smoke, right?? The approach speed is a bit too fast to look right, and a lighter weight setup would help there. Unlike an A-10 or other types with a fat trainer type wing these type of jets have razor thin airfoils - so to slow down and fly scale like on approach, even with complex slotted flaps etc... it has to be lighter. I'm not sure of the prototype's weight to begin with, maybe you need all that power due to the type of construction but I think these types of jets can easily fly on .6:1 thrust to weight based on my experience with these types of designs - almost half the drag of a fighter straight and level and a third of the drag in a turn (depending on comparison of course)
I really like the size. To do the G550 justice with turbine it has to be bigger like it is. Looks like it's a really nice setup in the making. Agreed with the other comments on the cockpit - it needs a tweak here and there for window arrangements, certainly. Nice job guys. |

You do not need a bigger trailer. The tail is removable. See photo Thanks James |
RE: FEJ Gulfstream G550 is ready!
Hi Mario:
Big Hawk is tested down now. Your 180 can fly it very well. PS: Yak should be ready for test end of this month or next month. Thanks James |
RE: FEJ Gulfstream G550 is ready!
The shapes of the front windows are correct. They only look small because the outer frame on the model is painted. On the full size they are usually polished making the window look a bit bigger. Look closer to the frame in post #18. They even got the spacing of the HSTB-409 hi-shear fasteners correct. The vortex generators on the real one only extend up ¼” or so. Also there is not aileron trim tab on the right wing. I know all this because I am sitting in the hangar where they are made, and have been servicing the G550 since it entered service. Overall I am very impressed with the work you guys did.

Bob As for the removable front, it's the only way to get in there to install the cockpit. Again, it should look better when fitted and painted properly. Thank you all for the comments. We do look at the plane constantly to see what we can do to make it better. Lowell |
