JHH Bae Hawk
Just received my JHH Hawk on Thursday. This is one of the best built ARF I have seen. Fiberglass and gelcoat is beautiful. Wing went together in less than an hour( not including glue time) and everything lined up and fit perfect. Instuctions are excellent with step by step photo illustrations. Hope it flies has well has it looks. If it does i'll definitely get another one.
Does anyone else have any input on this kit? Larry you ought to do the same thing with the Saber. Get with it! John Riccoboni Not a rep for anyone! |

Great looking airplane. How much did you pay for it? What engine? Let us know how it flys.

I also bought the JHH Hawk, i have not seen it yet as i'm on a flying trip, look foward to seeing the hawk when i get back on friday, As for power i was going to use a Simjet 700, but that does not look likely until the end of the year. Would like to find a OS 46 VX-D/F towerhobbies says they will have them in stock in may, but then again they said that for april. Anyone know where is can buy a new OS .46 Ducted fan engine ? Thanks Robert |

I have anew OS 46 VXDF and Turbax 1. I'm going to use a Weston pipe from JD Enterprises to eliminate the pipe coupler and hanger. I have used this combo before and it works great. I see if i can figure out how to show some pics. I'm kind of computer stupid. I paid 750.00 for the kit and so far i feel it was worth every penny. When i think if the time and money i have spent on some other kits like Yellow aircraft this is a real bargain.

Heres how mine is coming along.... I built up a new wing and implimented slotted flaps to add a little more scale look to the plane. Still real happy with the quality of the kit. But since mine is going to be EDF powered I have to put everything on a diet to get the batteries in.
What do you guys use to activate your speed brakes with? Gordon :) |

John,
Glad you like your ARF. Which Yellow Aircraft kits did you spend all that time and money on? |
Shaun
Shaun . I figured you would put your two cents in. I have built several A-4's have owned two F-4 and an F-16 and just bought an epoxy Starfire. I like Yellow products they just take more time and money than this Hawk does. Just think of the time in glassing and painting alone. I work for a living and I am raising two young kids and that takes up a lot of building time. this kit was made for guys like me.

John,
Interesting. I'd agree that an ARF takes less time to build than a kit (usually), but Yellow Aircraft doesn't produce any .45-size jets (in ARF or kit form), so it's kind-of an 'apples and oranges' comparison. I'm glad you like Yellow Aircraft products, and thanks for the clarification. That's my $.04 worth, as I've recently had a price increase from $.02. |
Yellow Aircraft rep ?
Shaun, are you a Yellow Aircraft Rep ?
I need to ask a customer support question |
Shaun
Shaun Yellow A-4's fly great with Turbax 1 and 46 engine. Last year built a Yellow A-4 and built it light and installed a Turbax 1 and a KB 48. The plane weighs under 9.5 lbs and flys great. It glides forever I found out when my 48 dead sticked. Once i got the 48 tuned it worked great. Same performance has Dynamax 77 combo but lighter. I figured if the JHH A-4 flies good with a 46 the Yellow probably would too.

Edge,
Yes, Sir, guilty as charged. What can I help you with? You can email me directly, or contact me in here. If you email your phone number, I'd be happy to give you a call. |

John, Larry lets you own 'Yellow Aircraft' planes?
I've seen the Hawk, and I wonder why they pre-installed the inlet. It doesn't fit very well and it looks like you'd need a lot of filler to make a smooth transition. I'd also prefer some covering other than shelf paper. Why not glass? Don't get me wrong, its a cool looking plane but, I think its not nearly worth the money they want. |

Dan,
Yellow's ARFs are fiberglassed using [whatever the metric equivalent to 3/4-oz.] cloth and polyester resin. Then they're primed with automotive primer and painted with automotive urethane paint. The A-4 ARF is $1560. That sounds high compared to the JHH ARF, but they're really very different animals. The A-4 ARF comes with the airframe almost completely constructed, including the plug-in wings. The builder has to glue on the horizontal stab. All the wood parts are glassed and hinged, and the hatches are ready to use (pins and latches installed), including the canopy. The color isn't molded into the glass, it's actually painted on, so it's not translucent. The servo and retract mounts are ready for installation, and the airplanes look really good. In most cases, the jet ARFs are about $1000 more than the kits. When you see one, you'll wonder if you could get someone to build the kit from start to finish, glass, prime and paint it (and make it look like they do) for the same money. If you'd like to see one, I can show you my Starfire ARF. It's pretty indicative of what you get with an ARF from Yellow. Just give me an email, and I'll hook it up. |

Dan,
They're pretty light. As with anything else, different people perceive value differently. I'm not too crazy about building, so I love Yellow's ARFs. |

Flew mine today, OS91-Dynamax fan, 11 lbs dry, Set the elevator up with the same incidence as the wing,I had to give it up elevator trim, Set all the control throws as per instructions and they were right on the money ,it flew great, with no wind blowing it came off the ground with ease flew very well and fast, not too bad for an ARF
David |
WOW, A 91 ?
congrats on the test flight,
I concidered a 91/dynamax combo also, but worried about fuel space and the extra pound of weight, so concidering os46/turbax/weston pipe combo for mine to keep the weight under control . so how much fuel were you able to fit and type of tanks, what pipe did you use ? . how fast was it on final, regards, scott |

The fuel tanks are located between the intake ducting as the plans called for ,I have Dubro 14oz on the bottom with a 10oz dubro and 2 oz hopper side by side over the 14oz,I took a while for it to slow on approach, but like I said there was no wind,I used the flaps on take off and landing. When I throttled back for landing and dropped the flaps it nosed over a little, (it was sill going about half speed, I should have let it slowed more)but was not a problem. People watching estimated maybe 150-160mph,I will have to get one of the cops in our club to bring the radar gun back out to check it,
The only problem I had was the cockpit warped a little due to the eat today(damn abs molding)I will keep it covered now. I also filled in the wheel wells I used 2 1/4 mains and did not want the well so big,I took some pics David |
