Canopy cleaning?

Anyone know of a good cleaner for canopys? I noticed after finishing painting I have a little bit of tape residue etc. that needs cleaned off.

They say "Future" Floor polish works the best.

Terry

I remember reading that thread, but it seemed to me they were trying to get rid of scratches maybe? I just want to clean it, so was looking for a cleaner that wouldnt damage it.

Try the Future, it'll remove tape and overspray residue too.;)

If it don't, sand the residue off ....Then use the Future to shine it back up.:D

I have found that KIT "Scratch Out" works best for clear canopy's.

Goo Gone is safe on canopies and will remove any tape residue.

Goo Gone is the same as Zylene. You can buy a quart of Zylene for what a few ounces of Goo Gone costs. You can get Zylene at Home Depot. I had to remove some tape residue today and I just used some mineral spirits. Worked great!!! Zylene is a little more aggressive than mineral spirits so test for compatability first.

Not sure about that Kevin?
Goo Gone, although it does contain some petroleum distillates, I believe it is mostly a citrus extract. I dont think it is near as harsh as Zylene. I'll Have to read the bottle.... 3M also makes an adhesive residue remover that is very similar to Goo Gone in a aerosol can (have it right in front of me), it list "Citrus Extract" on this as well....

GOO GONE is absolutely the best for removing old tape residue and anyother type of sticky stuff. I hve seen the stuff at Home Depot, Lowe's, Sears Hardware, and a local hobby shop. Not that hard to find.

I use Bolink Body wash to get the glue off. You can find it in the RC Car section of the hobby shop. It is used on lexan so it is safe for the canopy. It can also take some overspray off. I use it to take the overspray off the outside of RC car bodies. I also use it when I cut out shapes on monokote. You can draw on the monokote with marker and the Body wash will take it right off. Works Great!

RE: Canopy cleaning?

Hi Kevin:
Very easy to do. The way I do it is of course making sure there is no dust on the canopy. I use soft clean cloth or a soft paper towel. I soak the towel with the future and wipe the inside of the canopy in one direction only. After that has set up in about 30 min, I than do the same on the other side. Work fast it sets up quickly,,,, always start at one end and wipe toward the other. It has instructions on how to remove. keep the towel soaked. Do not worry about little hairs they will disappear. The way modelers do is dip the whole thing. Makes them look like glass. Practice if you can. Hope this helps
