No one has contacted me, ? I have over 30 flights on mine ? With no issues

dubd 10-05-2013 10:38 AM

To clarify my earlier statement, the "similarities" between my incident and Mike's is that both A-10s pitched upwards and rolled. Given that my A-10 had a number of flights on it, my assessment is that I had a flame-out and I ran out of luck and skill to bring the plane back to the runway.

Can the a-10s not handle a single engine condition?

rbxbear44 10-05-2013 05:48 PM

FB,
Yes they can. But by looking at the pics, both nacelles were broken and altering incidence angles of the turbines on both sides. I've seen guys fly Mibo's on one engine fine without too much yaw issue. I was there...Mike was brilliant at getting this bird down in one piece. I too saw right at 3 min into the maiden, on straight and level flight, it had an abrupt change in pitch...very severe. His approach to landing was very pitch sensitive the whole way in. It was a great save for sure on Mike's part. BV and Dustin were "Johnny on the spot" to get firsthand intel to get a fix going for this bird.

Rex, I was just wondering since some day I would like to have a nice a-10. Dubd said he had a flame out and I was just wondering if they were controllable on one turbine. Thanks for the info

the A10 is defiantly more controllable as a twin over lets say a P-38 , lol .. I have seen an A-10 go in recently on a single engine out condition , but it looked like it was because the pilot was not aware right away he lost the engine and allowed the plane to slow down too much, and then applied throttle near stall speed, rolling the plane into the ground .. Losing an engine, as long as you don't let off the throttle and bleed off too much speed, the A-10s should be no problem.. landing would be best at complete idle with 1 engine. Be careful on go-arounds with any engine out twin ... , this is where you can easily roll it into the runway ..

Mike, I'm glad to hear you did not lose your plane!! :) I'm sure Skymaster has your back 100% with support. I have had issues in the past where it took some nudging, but Anton and John always came thorough. I have been giving the A-10 some very serious though lately myself, but i think a 1/4 scale turbine heli will be my choice instead for now.. hope i'm making the right choice here .. i Love the A-10!!

Hi Guys The A-10 that Helijet spoke of was mine. It did indeed have a crack in the starboard nacelle right where it joins the fuse section. After close inspection it was evident that there was some poor glue to skin contact and I went in an removed as much of the excess glue around the bond areas and backed it up with fiberglass. It has not flown since but is solid.
