Default Skymaster A-10

HI all, this is where your moral obligation comes into play, it's been almost a week, and not one word from Skymaster to ground all A10's, until they come up with a fix, or replacement of the nacelle failures.
How many have already crashed.
This failure was by another ,very skilled pilot, on the maiden flight, at Super South.
I also have a brand new A-10, I have fixed the stab, do I also have to fix the nacelles.

That looks like the result of a hard landing to me. Mine looked similar though not anywhere near as bad after a less than smooth arrival.

Hi,

Thank you for bringing this under our attention. We have had a look at the pictures and feel we need to make improvement. It is possible that some glue can fail either via shipping or stress. We must make sure the formers are well bonded to skin. We have already contacted all A10 pilots and urge those who have not been contacted to mail John for update.
We will inform factory to glass all formers to skin to make sure the loads are transferred to skin.

Best regards

Anton Lin

I like the way you work it A++
It might help to take out the holes and leave it solid ply in that area, looks like the break occured on thin area due to the holes.

Since this A-10 is mine, I'd like to chime in on this thread. Anton and John at Skymaster and Bob and Dustin at BVM have acknowledged the need for structural changes to the nacelle spars and have been supportive of me as a customer. Once the issue was brought to their attention, they immediately began the process to improve the kit and have assured me that the damaged parts will be replaced, at their expense. Skymaster will be addressing the issue with current A-10 owners and they will be making design and manufacturing changes which should resolve this issue.

My communication with Skymaster and BVM has been excellent and I am disappointed that an issue with my jet has been brought into a public forum by someone else. Pete did not know of the communications between Skymaster, BVM and me and how quickly they were moving. This thread gives the impression that Skymaster was ignoring the issue, which couldn't be further from the truth.

HI Mike, I have to totally disagree with you.
The hobby has to be informed right away, when there's a chance of personal injury from out of control products.
And also to mention, another pilots Maiden postponed.

Interesting...one on the west coast here in May had cracks around the nacelle too. Thought it was just a rare / one off thing. I think it happened around the second flight. Surprised this has not been noted earlier...

Dubd lost his A-10 due to nacelle failure as well. I do believe he has spoken with Skymaster about it already though.

I find it quite ironic that Dubd has vocally supported the banning of FEJ jets due to quality issues but he is strangely quite on his Skymaster A10 loss due to structural failure.

I assumed my crash was caused by a flameout. It was not until Mike described his incident to me this week that I saw similarities between incidents. Skymaster has been in contact with me.

What does DUBD have to do with how skymaster handles there problems? This is not the first skymaster product to have a problem and it wont be the last, none of them are perfect. The difference between FEJ and Skymaster is that skymaster steps up to the plate and deals with it on a case by case basis. I had a problem, they handled it with one email! FEJ didn't handle it in most cases and that is well documented here on rcu. I think FEJ has now learned there lesson but time will tell. I can only say from personal experience that if you have a problem with a skymaster product they have your back.

So now that you see "similarities", are you going to try to ban Skymaster jets?

Hey "Mr. 44 posts", what don't you understand about the simple fact that its not an issue since Skymaster responds to its customers and looks at the problem through open eyes. The reason no one ever heard about the issue was because Skymaster dealt with it. There was no need to come in and talk about how anyone was ignored or blamed for incompetence or "improper" assembly. The problem was looked at and Skymaster assessed that they could have done better in the area that failed, job done! I merely mentioned it to show continuity in the fact that similar failures are happening across multiple models. Has nothing to do with the pilots. You need to wake and smell what you're shoveling.

So now would you please tell us how many FEJ jets you own and what great customer service you have had from them? This is your chance to disprove all the haters out there. We are all ears.............

I actually have 2 Skymaster and 1 FEJ. I have honestly had good customer service from both. I do have an issue with some here that are calling for some manufacturers jets to be "banned" and all current jets from them "grounded". That was the issue I was addressing.

Thanks,

Wes

Skymaster hasn't ignored the issue and has contacted all A-10 owners with a fix. What is there to be upset about?

Duh, I guess I am. The real deal is that no one came on here crying like a baby. But I am sure you can find something to complain about. Call me dense, it's cool. I can't say anything, I am on double secret probation!
