Cockpit for a Byron Kfir?
I'm in the process of building an old Byron Kfir which I am going to modernize, totally scale-ify and probably power with a turbine (with the appropriate strengthening).
Anyone have an idea where I can find some sort of cockpit kit? The Kfir is basically a Mirage III, so something like that could also work. It is 1/7th scale. I don't mind fabricating details, I'm just not sure I want to totally start from scratch. Any suggestions? |
Something like Aviation Design perhaps?
Thanks, but unfortunately their small Mirage is too small and the big one is too big.
have you tried Iron Bay? They sent me parts for my Byron F20. Converted this to turbine also.If they dont have anything maybe Jet Hangar hobbies since they sale a KFIR kit also I believe

I have a JHH Kfir that I damaged last year.If you want the scale cockpit you can have it.I live not too far from you. Give me a call.Mark (973)696-3856 |
Iron Bay appears to be out of business. They have not returned a single email of mine in weeks.
Hi Mark. I appreciate your offer. The JHH Kfir is quite a bit smaller than the Byron, I'm not sure it would work. Could you measure it by chance?

Anyone here fly one of these before? From my experience deltas fly great. Looks like the Byron has a pretty fat wing on it. I unboxed mine to get a feel for the size.
Byron's were really designed to fly on the old power systems of the 80s. Explains the thicker airfoil. So it will have pretty good low speed performance but all deltas can be prone to hi speed stalls if you are into yanking and banking. Wouldnt mind one myself to go along with the F18, F15 and my T33
Where did you find this anyway? |
I had posted several wanted ads and finally found someone who was willing to part with theirs. I had wanted one for years after watching Iron Eagle as a kid and thinking the Kfir was a neat looking jet. That and I liked how much larger it is than the JHH kit.
its amazing that these old Byron kits are sill out there. You can find the F15s, T33s and 16s, some F18s and A4s, an occasional F20 and the extinct Bullet .
Yeah I searched for a while for the Kfir, and when I found one it wasn't cheap. There's actually a built Bullet on eBay right now (albeit very overpriced).

Hi Sessholvlaru, the measurements are L-91/2 W-4 H-51/2.
Did you not get a cockpit with your kit? Or are you looking for something better?
Are you in a hurry for it? |
What I got with it is a very rudimentary vacu-formed plastic piece. I'm looking for a competition worthy cockpit. I don't mind building one but I'd love to find something better to start off with.
And I'm not in that much of a hurry. I will probably be working on it all year.
did it come with a tub? You might be able to buy one from one of the ARF companies that sale the Rafael. what scale is it anyway?
hello
you can send a mail to cine-scale.com they can do any details for your mirage not cheap but state of the art work best regards fafa |
What are you going to use for power? I would use aVT80.Small,light and efficient. Mine had a Wren 54(14lbs) and flew great. There are pictures of mine on Jet Hanger's web site.I would like to build another Kfir either that size or a little bigger.
I measured my cockpit area and yours is too small Mark. Thanks anyway though.
I found that Global Jet Club sells a Mirage cockpit that is right about the correct size, and it's reasonably priced. http://www.globaljetclub.com/index.p...roduct_id=1793 |
And I was thinking a P80 as well. Seems like the right choice for what I anticipate the final weight to be.
If you don't already have a P80, I would recommend using one of the modern designs like the Merlin 100,or the VT80.They are both smaller, more efficient and much lighter. This will make a big difference in flight and take off performance.Where do you fly?
I don't have the turbine yet, so I will look into those. I fly at a field in Wayne and another one in Leonia, but neither of those allow turbines. I'd probably go to Floyd Bennett. Is that where you fly jets?
I fly at Waywanda and black dirt, both jet friendly fields.I flew at Wayne years ago.
