f117

hi guys couple question about the f117, what electronics/gyros would you use to make this flyable? also would you put rudder only v-tail like the real thing or make the tail control pitch instead of elevons to make it easier to fly without 4 laptops plugged into it?

Bob Fiorenze used to fly the Yellow Aircraft F-117 very well without 4 laptops. And that was at least 15 years ago.

What gary said. Bob Fio had no problems.

Smokin Joe McBride had a much bigger one. That one probably did have 4 Laptops though. You may want to touch base with him.

It will fly fine without gyros, etc. Like any other delta it's very stable with a forward CG. The real one has a rearward CG to make it more maneuverable and therefore requires computer augmentation for stable flight.

i see thannx for the imputs guys.

warrenmiller11 04-10-2015 07:07 AM

so if i put my cg forward i dont need gyros and whatnot?

Just put the CG where the manufacturer recommends. From your questions it sounds like you need more modelling and jet experience before tackling a project like that.

I flew the aviation designs F117. 1- 1/2 flights. It went in with heat problem.
The tail was used as elevator only. The full scale pics showed shots with both
The tail in use and some without. First flight was a piece of cake, no problems.
Make sure there are no heat leaks into the fuse. The tail pipe does restrict flow.
