Congrats David, thanks for the posting!

Vincent, below are some dimensions, so I don't think that they are similar in size:

What we need is for someone to photograph one of these next to a wren 44 gold, a P20 and a P60

Bob_B 04-26-2015 03:26 AM

The Wren 44 and K 45 are the same diameter at 3" a p60 is 3.25" and the p20 is 2.34"

Vincent 04-26-2015 04:46 AM

The P60 weighs the same as the 45

Pttcrisp 04-26-2015 04:52 AM

I still can't understand why all these new engines don't come with integrated fod screens like wrens do. All these gimmicks of kero start and integral valves but still no integrated fod screen

I don't think that is correct. The P60 weighs 0.87 Kg and the Kingtech is 0.70 Kg. This is the overall weight of the P60 with ancillaries. Not sure if the K45 is plus ecu and pump. For sure the K45 will have better fuel consumption than the P60 was very poor. We will have to see when one of the K45 engines is tested by RCJI. We will all be looking at this with interest.

Agreed! Wren has a better idea imo.

You will not be surprised that the inspiration for the Wren style FOD guard came from the Whittle and Nene engines which had them as standard.

I added the K45 to my chart. The shorter the engine is the better it is as you get the weight closer to CG. More important then you might think.

Thanks Henke very useful

Will the K45 fit the Mini Avanti S and still balance?
it seems a bit big (thrust and dimensions) from what the photos of this plane look like and I believe Sebart said 20 or 30 size turbine max

Eddie P 04-26-2015 01:07 PM

I'd be really interested in fuel burn between the two engines also (Wren 44i Gold and the K45). I wish little engines had correspondingly lower price tags! I know why they don't but these would make for awesome scratch built multi-engine setups - alas not with my hobby budget :) Perhaps if I got a wild hair and sold a few planes...

rhklenke 04-26-2015 01:59 PM

So I have a Yellow Aircraft A-4 kit (http://www.yellowaircraft.com/jets/a4.htm) that I am *going* to build for a turbine. I was originally thinking of the KingTech K-60 for it, but I wonder if a K-45 wpuld be better? The original kit was designed for a Ramtech 5 1/4" .82-powered ducted fan, or similar...

i flew one with a P60 and it was too heavy. I would go with the lightest motor you can get maybe the 44. I think it would even fly ok on the lambert T35.

Bob_B 04-26-2015 04:35 PM

Interesting that the Wren is a shade lighter. It's 20 mm longer hardly an issue I think.

Thanks for the feedback on the P60. I'm hoping that the K45 will be around $1800 like the other KingTechs, which is better than $2400 for the MW44. Plus there are a lot more KingTech engines out there in the US than Wrens, which I don't have any experience with...

Looks like it's $1650 according to the website.

It would probably fit but too heavy for my taste. Adding 1kg of thrust for sure, but also adding more than 1kg of weight?!

I found this on facebook, the all mighty Habu with K45 :p
