yes this apply to gas and glow plug setting. I think to upgrade to the R03B the older ecu need software and circuit board mod by Bod price. I still have my Ram 1000 as a backup :)

The ram 500 in question was traded by me to Cole..It had the latest version from Bob...This was a turnkey jet....It started perfect every time...Of course you have to no how to start it and to use Jet A fuel and not kerosene...If someone went and reprogrammed or was using kerosene, that will have an effect on the glow plug...Also once the plug was burnt,You cant just stick one in without adjusting the filament...You also need to turn off the propane once it ramps up...Propane runs hotter...All this stuff I showed your wife during the swap in Albuquerque ...She will attest how easy it was....I will offer AGAIN to trade back if this is not for you...

Has anyone accused you of selling something that didn't work? As far as I know Cole is happy.
The jet operated as expected and the motor runs great. I know enough about plugs to pull out the filliment. I just have never operated a Ram and wanted some advised while I was helping Cole. The plugs burnt out while burning JetA.

Glow plug burnout has nothing to do with fuel type, as the plug does not light when fuel is running, only starting gas. if it burnt, your ECU is probably outputting a tad too high of avoltage for this specific plug.
we ran several RAM 500s with kerosene locally - all ran well stock.

Holly cow what great response to this thread!! I couldn'task for better help. The ECO is indeed the newest version of the software R03B or whatver. I have Quist helping me with this endeavor and he is one of the best, but I put this ram in his lap with either of us having zero knowledge of it which is why I was asking for tips from experienced hands.

I am in no way un happy with the jet so move along Patrick.

I got 3 great flights on the jet and am very happy. Myself and mr.quist will be at the jet rally here locally and will be flying and maybe make a couple of adjustments to glow voltage and change the plug to the rossi plug. Hopefully we stop slamming these things.

Thank you all for the great advise and please keep it comming!!

Bob price, my email is [email protected] for the manual for the new software if you don't mind..

COLE,
Thanks for the update on the ECU software of your RAM 500. Bob P. should be sending you the Operating Manual on his R03B version which contains a wealth of useful info on the RAM/FTE/RTI series of turbines. I suggest turning down the glow parameter slightly to avoid burning plugs. If you change plug types, then the parameter MAY have to be adjusted accordingly. Bob's manual describes a procedure for doing this. As stated earlier, I use the Coleman Powermax for the starting gas with no problems whatsoever. However, Powemax and a suitable trigger assembly may be hard to find and standard "blowtorch" propane WITH a regulator is a second option. Also I've moved to off-board gas with the CO2-like cylinder out of the model.
All it takes is a couple of Festo fittings and a shutoff valve. Finally, I recommend a 2S 2000 mAh LiPo instead of the 6 cell NiCd or NiMh ECU battery for more consistent starts. Although Bob P. recommends a Duralite LiIon battery I found the LiPos to be better. All this is from 7+ years of operating RAM and FTE turbines.
Rgds,
Art ARRO

Art - thanks for the help. I have been using 2cell LIPO for Many years. Definitely the one to use. I have repeatably offered my phone number for help and offer to send R03B manual over email but no response. I need an email address to send to.

I am using the Coleman propane and LiPo battery for the ECUand having excellent luck with startup. the main problem that I am having, the only problem i am having is the burning out of glow plugs each flight. I will get it dialed in I'm sure.

Bob, I provided my email in my previous post. [email protected]

Cole. Sorry I missed the email address. I just sent you the manual. If you call me at 512-897-9770, I will go over with you how to set the glow plug setting so you won't blow plugs

Cole/Tony are you guys going to Mesa Jet Rally?

Bob can you send it to me too please? [email protected]

Did I accuse anyone of accusing me of that...I thought I was helping out by letting you know what updates and how it ran...I guess you did not need advise from someone that knew this information...WOW..BFF
I guess I will just move along ?

I just thought you sounded defensive. Wanted to let you know all was good with the jet.
