Fei Bao Hawker Hunter: Build Thread
4 Attachment(s)
Ok fellows this is a little premature but I am going with it anyway. I have a new FEI BAO Hawker Hunter paid for and hopefully will be finished and shipped sometime next month. I purchased mine through Eric Clapp @ A & E Jets USA (formally JetCentralUSA). I know there are a couple of other fellows who have also purchased the air frame.
There is not a lot of info out there right now but I received some pics from Eric this morning and wanted to pass them along. I also thought this would be a good time to get a build thread started so we can get info all into one place. I was also told fuel capacity would be 6.1 Liters. More to come (hopefully soon) Mike Saleeby http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2132467http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2132468http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2132469http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2132470 |

Hi Guys,
Thought I would share a few pics of the Big FB Jets hunter. Their product keeps getting better and better. This is one large jet. Over 3m long. It arrived a fortnight ago. Pretty much complete now and ready for me to finish the decals and weathering (my choice) before clear is applied. All the servos hatches as is usual with the FB stuff are direct mounted with 3mm into t nuts on the surfaces so they are supper strong. There is a massive amount of room. Standard fuel tanks total just under 6L. The main thing I was impressed with was the retracts and wheels. Fitted with great ball-bearings and working significantly better than some previous retract units. Some of the retracts out of China at the moment have very small tolerances, where a little more would generally nice, however these are supper smooth.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149251http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149252http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149253http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149254http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149255http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149257http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149258http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149259http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149260http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149261http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2149262 |
Can't wait to hear the flight reports. Been thinking about pulling the trigger on that air frame. Best of luck with maiden. Post some good pics of gear when you can.

How do you order this kit, I don't see anything on their web site.

Contace Eric Clapp [email protected] He is a FB dealer and a great guy to work with. I have bought a lot of jet stuff from him throughout the years and he is my go to guy.

so any flight videos out yet?

I was going for the M2000. but now I'm seriously considering about getting this Bird. the big issue for me is transportation. We got some microlite aircraft hangars at the field but I don't know if any of the guys owning them is willing to let me store the plane in there and how safe it is. I think I wouldn't sleep at night knowing that the plane is at an airfield without any security

Hi Gents,

Hello guys. whats the recommended CG for the FB Hawker Hunter? After about a dozen flights with new Hunter. I determined that the 105-110 mm CG is perfect! The fuel burn-down during flight will transition the CG toward the aft point I've listed. The aircraft has absolutely zero bad handling qualities at these points. The only weak point on this design is the landing gear carbon mounting area's! As delivered, the factory is not generous with the application of their version of HYSOL? I strongly recommend removal of the flap area to drill HYSOL access points along the trailing edge to ensure a good coating of HYSOL along the gear plate box area's that you can not reach thru the gear areas! Good luck with your build, it is otherwise a very strong structure. Franko |

That is correct! It is measured from the main gear axle line forward. Frank |
Thank you Frank.

Congratulations on the maiden.
I am in the process of building mine. Everything is ready except for the forward fuselage that I am starting just this week. Putting a Swiwin 240 in it. May I ask how are you planning to reinforce la LG mounts? Jus add some glue o something more? I would appreciate some photographs of your install under the canopy. Thanks in advance. Regards Eduardo. |
