They look particularly good in Knife Edge, piloted by Geoff White, At Long Marston last weekend.

Yeah, great model. Mine is approaching 300 flights and is still going strong.

Ya but Geoff White can knife edge a brick and twig with a rubber band and make it track perfect.. Dude you are one of the best jet pilots I have seen

I watched Geoff put two of the best flights I have ever witnessed in 15 yrs of flying jets at Winamac some 9 years ago on Francis's Bandit.. Remember Geoff? LOL.. and it was a maiden.
Then I watched him maiden a Lightning and do the same, with a perfect dead stick right in front of us at the end.. (bubble, that we fixed).

I bought a flash the next day.. LOL.. still feel like Im learning to fly it..

robersteam 08-23-2017 08:07 AM

wait to see mine...Lol

Ha Goose,
You are very kind!
I remember the maiden on Francis's bandit well but for the life of me I can't remember the lightning.

The week I spent at winamac was such a great time and everyone was very welcoming. Will definitely go back one day.

Geoff.

Yup, the Guy Martin of UK model jets. Doesn't do model shows but would leave the show circuit regulars thinking why am I here!

Thanks for that.
The comparison is making me smile but I am not a truck mechanic, I am but a mere IT consultant!

The UL it's a strong fun plane to fly fast, slow, stable, precise you name it, it does it all, I had one for of them about two years and I really enjoyed ....
Congrats Pelado, have lots of fun with your UL !!

The UL is a fine aircraft, excellent value and can take a beating. I flew one over 4 years off grass and the flight envelope is pretty wide. My only real complaint was that it tends to snap out on aggressive inverted moves. (I solved that problem by upgrading to a Shockwave) I would also add that the UL looks better without the "Ultralightning" in the fuselage stripes and non-paisley tail scheme.

Serious?

Absolutely not joking - Shockwave does not have any washout in the wing and will out aerobatic fly a UL, UB, etc. But my comment was not to take any real credit away from the Ultra Lightning. It is a great jet that is low cost and built right by CARF. I've owned a few Lightnings since the original first came out over a decade ago, have countless flights on them and know their habits very well. I flew my last UL pretty much exclusively for 4 years before selling it. That UL is what greatly improved my flying skills and I owe it a lot of credit for that. I just started getting bored with it and decided to move on to something better. Just don't get too stupid on tight outside loop action or quick transitions from inverted and all will be fine with the UL.

So I am getting ready for a maiden flight on my ultra lightning and I guess I am just second guessing my self to death with the cg. With the wings off and it's balancing directly on the wing tube, is that going to be ok? How tolerant is this plane to aft cg? Thanks for you're input anyone?

sc0tt 09-18-2017 10:01 AM

You should be ok balanced on center of wing tube (wings off). Most shifted their CG even farther back after getting more flight time and comfortable. My final CG eventually ended up aft of the wing tube, not exactly sure how far because I just kept moving the batteries back on the velcro. I do remember my ECU battery eventually ending up about middle of the equipment tray. Below is an old link on this topic...

Thanks Scott! I will leave it there then for the maiden.

Hi Chris, how was the CofG with the UL balanced exactly on the wing tube?

ChrisPetersen 05-13-2018 12:06 PM

No problem balanced on the wing tube. I haven’t had a chance to get a lot of flights in yet but it flys freakin awesome. My only gripe is it hard to slow down. There’s no drag and it’s about three circuits at quarter throttle to come out of warp. But like I say I haven’t got a lot of flights on it yet and I have a lot to learn on how it flys but it’s a real adrenaline jolt.https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...5dc53f8a4.jpeg

Chris,

Add more full flap, that is what full flap is for - more drag.

Cheers,
