Boomerangs still available and a new container is coming soon with the new redesign sprint. |
Contact Larry at Boomerang-rc-Jets.com he’ll have more info. |
I've flown the dolphin and odyssey. T1 wins that hands down not to mention it's better looking.
I've also flown the excalibur and bobcat. While they fly great your not doing advanced stuff later down the road like knife edge passes with them. My friend has both an excalibur and a bobcat and both don't even get touched now that he has a T1 and T3. I have gotten 3 people turbine waivers on the same day letting them fly the T1. 2 of them didn't even have any EDF experience prior too the flights. Also can't beat the price and quality. |
It never ceases to amaze me. We get a new member who wants to get into to turbines... and says... "I don't want to break the bank"... and you guys always throw out a model that will cost +$5000 to get in the air.
I'm proud to label myself as a hobo, or ghetto jet flyer. Every single one of my models was built on a budget, and I have 5 flying jets, for the price that some guys have into a single model. My trainer was in the air for around $1100. (less the Tx'r) Anyway... what's wrong with covering? If you want to keep price in check... then wood and coving are fine. Heck... if built right... they can be light, and WAY tougher than composite. Not to mention... if something falls on the wing of your wood jet, it can be fixed easy. It's not so easy to fix a composite wing with a hole punched in it. AND, it's not always possible. My suggestion is to look at the used market, and go to a jet rally. I've been offered some crazy good deals over the years. Sometimes guys are just tired of a model, and don't even want to pack it back into their trailer. Sometimes, they knock the landing gear off, and ask 1% of the model's new value for something that is an easy fix. Right now, my favorite model is my Firebird. It looks like a reaction 54, but it's smaller. They aren't easy to source, but they are well under $700 new/shipped. I got mine for $300 locally. Someone bought it, and decided they didn't like it. It's light, compact, and super easy to fly. (But it's wood and covering) Boomerangs are great... but personally I think they are a little expensive new. BUT they are all over the used market because some guys see them as "Trainers" opposed to what they really are... a nice sport jet. Not all of us want scale warbirds. I never wanted them when I flew prop models... so why would I want them flying jets? Oh... Rich is a good guy. If you buy something from him... he will take care of you. Just my 2 cents... take it for what it's worth. |
Been wanting a T-1 for almost 6 months. Nobody has them in stock. I won’t pay unless it’s in my hands in a week. Won’t put up with “give me a deposit and when it comes from China in 2.3 decades will ship”. I guess I will never have one. My Jetcat turbine sits in its original box awaiting its 8th model jet. |
Someone suggested that a Boomerang will not knife edge. Well my baby Boomerang with a Wren Supersport certainly would knife edge as well as flying high alpha stuff { am a 3D hooligan ]
Here is a clip of Ali flying a Boomerang Sprint. He shows it surely does knife edge. I know I benefited from starting my turbine flying with a Boomerang because the access to the gubbins with the top off is great and it wont bite you if load it up in a turn. Also there is a healthy demand for used Boomers so if you cut your teeth on one they are easy to sell on. |

Also there is a healthy demand for used Boomers so if you cut your teeth on one they are easy to sell on. I wish they would bring back the baby boomerang. It was small, and inexpensive to fly. Back in the day... the small engines were a novelty... but now... we have a new generation of good small engines, and I think Larry should really consider it. |
Well he did not state his budget, I think the forum mods should make a simple sticky at the top of the forum on this topic. Its pretty often someone comes along asking this same question could be a great resource, just a thought.
Hey Zman why not post more detail what your looking for so we can narrow it down since everyone is a bit different. What turbine size, grass or pavement type runway and length, these are very important things to consider since somethings make not handle grass or need some runway. Like me, im not a twin boom fan and I hate certain jets like due to how they look. I picked a sport jet based on something I knew I could get within a couple of weeks over waiting months and then having to deal with the same problems. I also wanted a wide speed range and something you can do low speed aerobatics as well as high speed stuff. |
I talked to Larry this morning and he also have the new Mini Turbinators coming. 👍🏻https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...35fc038012.png https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...9e0090f43.jpeghttps://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f69c82bad.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...a789e93f6.jpeg I |
Lol a bobcat wont do advanced maneuvers? Since when is knife edge an advanced maneuver anyway? My bobcat xl will do any maneuver I want it to all day long. Ok it won't 3D but then i do not understand the desire to 3D fly any airplanes, particularly jets. I have bought 2 bobcat xl's now. I didn't pay more than $1500 for either of them and that is turnkey one with a P70, one with a K80. Both engines had around one hour time. I'm not a bvm pusher but you really can't go wrong with a bobcat xl as a first all the way through last jet. No it's not all composite but it's a fantastic jet.

Rick75 - I see several posts that Boomerang is closed down by then I see your video above and I am confused. Can you shed light on the situation.
|
Fake news, as you could see in the video the new sprint is a keeper I’ve seen in person. Boomerang jets are well and alive, for any inquires about the planes coming contact Larry at http://www.boomerang-rc-jets.com/ |

We’re flying one of the prototypes with a wren 44 with no issues but a 60 size turbine is perfect for it. |
First Jet
Zman,
You can't go wrong with a bobcat, a bobcat xl, or even a hotspot if you can find one. They are all reasonably priced models on the used market. The hotspot was one of the go to planes for people learning to fly way back when. They are built strong, can take a beating, and are fast as hell also with a bigger turbine. Put a gyro on it and it becomes more of a *****cat on landings. They may not be able to knife edge (if that's your thing) but it is a good plane. The bobcats will do every maneuver that a T1 can do and do it well. Check the classifieds you can always find a good deal there. Patrick |
