Hi,
I'm putting a RAM 500 on my Roo and would like to know if anyone has this set up. Is there a mount available and are there any mods that I need to make? Also what size fuel tank?

Making a mount for this setup is quite simple. What I did twice was take 1/32 ply cut into 5 or six same size rectangles. Wide enough and long enough to make a good cradle for the engine.

Then I took 30 min and double sided smooth the epoxzy on and put all pieces to gether with the outsides dry.

THen take wax paper and put it between your engine and the ply and roll the mount around the engine.

Use a 4" metal tightening strap and tighten the cradle to the engine (don't risk tearing the wax paper between the two, be carefull).

Let it sit for 6 hours outside or overnight whatever.

Next day, rough up the roo mount area they provide with 80 grit. Get it good and rough.

Clean it up a little with methanol or equal. Dry. Place aeropoxy all over the area.

Put your mount and engine on the aeropoxy. Mount does not need to be with metal strap at this point. You need to be worried about lining everythingup perfect at this point.

Stick a popscicle stick between the new mount and the ROO into the aeropoxy about 1/2" an inch on the back side to raise the back of the engine a little. Let the stick cure with your new mount all day or night long. Do not touch anything for 12 hours or so. If you do, you could totally get that thing unalighned and you'll have to start over.

The most fuel you'll be able to put on a roo is about 120 ounces. 100 is normal and near average I would guess.

For a 500, you could probably get by with 80. I would suggest the two liter bottle method in the instructions especially for the 500. I flew mine with 104 ounces on a RAM 100 and I was getting 8 min flights. I then put a simjet 2300 on it and I'm getting 12 min flights same amount of fuel.

A couple of layers of 8oz glass around a can the appropriate size works just as well. Line the inside of the mount with 1/16 ply and use hose clamps to strap the engine in place.

call the Jetcat people they have a mount for their P-80 which works great for my RAM~750

Very nice combination.

Attached is a picture of my mount, currently with a PST J600 installed. It was built and originally used with a RAM 500. I wrapped a few layers of wax paper around the Ram 500 and then laid layers of 6 ounce glass half way around until I got the thickness I wanted. I finished with one layer of carbon. The Carbon looks great, but not really needed. The thickness ended up to be 3/32. After it dried, I cut it to final size. It is screwed to the Roo mount surface with four sunk 4-40 screws. If you don't plan on changing it, you could also glue it along with the screws. Don't forget to put about a 1/16" shim between the mount and engine at rear of the engine.

I use a 50 ounce water bottle and a 16 ounce tank next to it. If you really want to use kevlar, I believe Garry Mueller makes a 68 (somewhere around there) ounce tank. I used the 100 when I had a Roo with a Ram 1000, but think that is overkill and just additional weight for the 500.

BTW, the P80/750 mount would be way too big.

Does the thrust line change when you use a RAM 500? I have a ROO that has the planes plus mount for the RAM 750. Can I just use that mount? Or, do I have to readjust the thrust line?

My Roo with the 500, and the one with the 1000, were set up the same. Set the mount on the Roo and then shim the back of the engine up 1/16 inch. This is a good starting point and may vary depending on your aircraft. Also, are you talking about putting a 500 in a 750 mount? The diameter of the engines are very different.

The T-500 mount used in my MB339 (see pic) will work great on the Roo, Just drill mounting holes into base of clamp and screw to the molded in Roo mount.
