Krylon paint
 

I know this should probably be in the Building section but I thought I should ask here since I will be painting my jet!:D
I'm not going for a showroom quality paint job so I'm wondering how good Krylon paint works? :cool:
I have used other spray bombs before that didn't work to bad but they were not Krylon.
Any info would be just peachy!!!:D:D:D

I just used it on an electric powered plane, light coat, and then to get a good shine, I used some Min Wax Polycrylic on it. I have heard Krylon and the Polycrylic are both fuel resistant also.

Hey,

Krylon hasn't been too fuel resistant for me, but it sure goes on nicely without bubbling or running (unless you try to do the Niagra Falls methond). I've used it on many models, including my latest one. I use glossy colors, then apply decals (decals don't do well over flat finishes) and clear coat with a flat clear polyurethane. It works well, and it's cheap too!

Shaun, Krylon makes a "matte" clear which that works well in killing the glossy look.

Hello, i painted my first jet with krylon, plastacote, pactra and it turned out great. after all was sprayed on i cleared it with ppg the first time, and after i repainted it i used utech and both time it worked great!

No runs...no drips...no errors....WRONG ANSWER!
Kick that rattle-can to the curb.
Do it right the first time. You will have better results and less of a heart ache later.

Only can-spray I have ever used that works is Duplicolor, and its sold in automotove stors (try www.autobarn.com) I do however spray a clear coat of pulyurethane on as the last coat ..

Here's a few handy tips for painting.
Next time you try the spray can style of paints
(any brand ) Give the can a good shake until the internal ball bearing rattles freely.... Then let the can sit in a bucket/sink of hot water for 10-15 min before spraying....Try it you will be amazed at the difference, much better flow and atomization, no orange peel effect + less clogging of nozzle.

-Always use many light coats as instead of few heavy coats.
-Always keep nozzle at same distance and parallel to surface. (experiment)
-Always check compatability of paint products including primers and clear coat
-Always clear nozzle by turning spray can upside down and clearing.

I like to spray all colours in flats, either flat acrylics or enamels, then use an epoxy clear to seal. This is just my way! we all have our prefered methods.
The F20 below was sprayed with cans, then airbrush polyurethane clear coated,

so which clears would be the cheapest and best for use over krylon .. and still be fuel proof/resistant? poor college student here is interested... any buzz can clears that are compatible?

Utech by far. it is cheep and i have had good results with it. i had to turn up the psi and cut the volume way down though, but still a good end result!

Personally, I think you should show some love for the airplane and do it up in high quality automotive paints, BUT I know I know, they are expensive, and a hassle to mix, and you need an air gun, etc...
If you are going to use a can, take the time to prep the surface properly. Wet sanding with 600 grit has worked well with me in the past with Krylon. Never spray in really humid weather. Heating the can is an excellent idea, so is a tack cloth.
I have seen some jobs where people have wet sanded with 1000grit or better and then over shot with a good (pPG) clear coat.
Often, when a paint shop shoots a car, they have to make up a large quantity of it, and almost always have junk left over. Drop in a few shops and show them your plane. I'm sure you could get them to help you out.

I guess the main reason I want to know is because i want to see how good aI can get a Krylon paint job to be!:D
Another question, I haven't been to the store yet to check it out but can you get florescent colors in Krylon? I'm a big fan of these colors and have had them on every plane.:D
When I get my Marcel Mirage done I'll post some pics and get opinions of my poor man's pant job!Still a couple weeks away yet though!:D:D:D
