Speed records
Hi al I am currently in the process of designing a high speed, interceptor/fighter, Think SR-71 Blackbird meets Fire Fox, yes it will be that sweet and so much more, I will hold off on construction until i graduate ( may 22) then I will devote most of my time to building this beast. i want to know What are your current speed records ? and what if any is the current World record for " fastest remote control twin turbine powered aircraft " ? I hope to reach at least 500mph with my bird, she'll be a kevlar/carbon fiber/ceramic skin over a bass wood superstructure, She'll be done in 1/6th scale which will bring her out at 10' 8" long with a 5'4" wing span, and 2' with gear retracted, and also done in classic CIA black. Also I want to install a parachute in the tail for stopping, and speed brakes, How would I go about doing that ? and installing them as well ?
Thanks for the info and safe flying, -Mike |
RE: Speed records
hey, i din't know of any records but i do know something that will improve your proformance at high speed. an intigrated intake diffuser would be a big pay off. since your p[lane can fly at mach .67 there is a bit of trouble with the air. when air reaches supersonic speed it becomes very awkward. your best bet is to make a large intake diffuser to slow the air down once it gets inside the ducts, and make sure the you make intake duct so that the all the 500mph wind will be consumed by the engine. and small inlets to allow air in. to much and you can create drag, to little and you can starve your engines. good luck and post so pics when done.

RE: Speed records
World speed record is held by AMT,check web site.

RE: Speed records
Whatever happened with your:
- twin turboprop seaplane with rotating outer wing/engine panels - 1/6th Rotary Launcher Assembly and 'Roo with afterburner projects? :D |
RE: Speed records
The Votech Machine shop closed that I was at, then I came up with something a little less complicated :D Ie i found a easier design to work from but like all our great projects the will get done some day......maybe.......If I am lucky ;) I am still trying to figure out the rotary launcher, but I dunno if its possible yet. Never did I want to do a roo with afterburners !!! It would melt that poor airframe, i am putting afterburners in my current project, but injection delivery is still a problem.

RE: Speed records
Please post details as you advance (unless your name is really Tracy :D)

RE: Speed records
Well.............For those of us in The States, the fastest ANY OF US, waivered by the AMA, has ever flown our turbine powered jets is 200 mph!!!
:):D;) |
RE: Speed records
well, not everything is seen by the AMA ([sm=lol.gif]) i bet a couple of poeple have flown faster than 200mph. hope you get you 500mph, but i have to ask you, what kind of powerplant will you be using?
|
RE: Speed records
Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot here, USA guys. We just got a GREAT set of new rules passed through the AMA, but the flip side is we have a great responsibility to help enforce those new rules. If any of us knows of someone trying to exceed 200 at an AMA field, AMA event, or anyplace that they are counting on AMA liability insurance... we need to all come down on him and warn him to stop it or be reported to the club's officials, CD, etc. If its out in the desert with no AMA connections, fine. But if not, its up to us to be responsible and not ruin the new freedoms we have been granted.
|
RE: Speed records
is it just me or is the AMA kinda againest turbines? i mean im glad we got these new rules, but i mean i wish guys didn't have to drive way out just to fly their 70Lb thrust planes

RE: Speed records
Hi guys.
What!! Do you have regulations of how fast a model can fly???[X(] Here in Norway, we have one single unwritten rule: Do not fly jets until you think you can handle it.. There are no rules comparable whith AMA`s, but we have a strong organisation for us modellers, who organizes the insurance etc. I guess its better to be a jet-freak here then!:D Gudmund |
RE: Speed records
I found a mpeg file of a 571 km/hr jet on another RC site. I downloaded it, how do I upload it here?
|
RE: Speed records
500 mph = 733.3 Feet Per Second
I hope you have good eyes, like a hawk. I'm building a a jato assisted dilithium crystal powered jet built out of tranparent aluminium code name Cacashooter , it won't be controlled by R/C no...brain waves wired into a helmet I will wear, I think it turns, only problem is I have to think in Vulcan otherwise it won't work. |
RE: Speed records
ORIGINAL: Goodman Hi guys. What!! Do you have regulations of how fast a model can fly???[X(] Gordon |
RE: Speed records
You don't need to think in Vulcan if you can't, you can always just speak into the mouse. "Computa"!

RE: Speed records
Oh goody for me I get to glide not "fly" my beast, Has anyone thought about creating their own orginazation like the AMA, that wasn't such a ball cruncher ? Rember the AMA started from nothing at one point !!. F-22 I will be using homemade turbines, with hopefully if the work out, after burners. HA HA Have Blue, very funny, looks like I have to prove my plane is capable to all, and yes it will hit 500mph at least once in its life time. *** I only know klingon !!! I'm so screwed !! Whats the new speed limit ? if its at least 150 I'll still join, if not to the salt flats !!!!

RE: Speed records
Boy this is starting to sound like the old days!
|
RE: Speed records
200 mph.
Come on Guardian, is that you Tracy? |
RE: Speed records
Woket I think you have been around the A-1 a little to long my friend, besides who the hell is tracy ? Son my name now and for ever will be Michael John Fodor !! Mr. Matt, don't you just love the good 'ol days ? :D Any way, back to topic what kind of chutes are out there to stop model airplanes ? something in the 40" dept. would do it just has to be super heavy duty thats all, where could i find a pattern on making a round chute ? how should I deploy/mount this bad boy on my airframe ?
thanks for the help, -Mike |
RE: Speed records
Tell you what..... If you design / build and fly a plane that goes over 280 mph in the next year
I will buy you any turbine of your choice. You can call it the "Weeks Challenge" You can post your progress here on RCU... Best of luck Eddie Weeks http://www.corpcomp.com/weeks1/ |
RE: Speed records
Come on Tracy, a GlassCat could EASILY pull off the Weeks Challenge (or at least something would get "pulled off") [X(]
|
RE: Speed records
OK Now this is getting good.
|
RE: Speed records
Guardian, I hope you are not going to pass up Eddie's unbelievably generous offer. A deal like that don't come along every day. When's test flight day?
