Facet beverage?

1 Attachment(s)
I don't know if Kerry makes a Facet beverage so I just drank a Dr.Pepper and then flew my Facet 2300 today. I bought the kit having never seen one fly, but the gamble has paid off. It is the perfect grass field jet. I knew it wouldn't need a lot of runway for take off with the P120 in it, but I was a little worried about how much runway I would need to land it. I only used about 200' to take off and about 300' to land and come to a complete stop. It's exactly what I was looking for in a jet.

Thanks to Kerry Sterner and Great Northern Models.

Hello gary

I have one in the works. It will have a ram 1000x for power. I have a few questions? What wheels and brakes are you using? Any idea on how much it weighs empty? Did you have to add any elevator mixing with the flaps? if so how much?

Thanks, Neal:D

I used the Trim wheels and brakes recommended by Great Northern. They took a while to get as they were out of stock on them. There is another thread on RCU where someone said that the BVM Mig15 wheels and brakes are cheaper than the Trim units. You might want to check into that. The Trims work great and come with a brake valve.

My Facet weighs 20.5# dry and just over 26# wet (RTF).

The plane did pitch up with flap deployment, but it could be because I was still going a little fast when I dropped them. I had no trouble flaring for touchdown as it slowed down.

Pat,
I hope you get to see it in Austin also. The only thing that might gum up the works, is the fact that I have a job interview next Thursday. If I get the job, I may have trouble getting off. Of course I could tell them that I can't start till after the Austin meet, but if my wife ever found out........................well...... let's not go there. I will be eligible for 40 hours of "personal time off" as soon as I'm hired, so there is still a chance.

In case any of you Facet builders are wondering if you need to build the stove pipe exhaust extension for starting, check out what a wet start does to monokoted balsa:
It seems I had a data cable problem that was keeping the P120 from starting. I had a couple of aborted starts. I then replaced the cable and on the next start, well ...let's just say the crowd loved it. And I thought Monokote was a high heat film.

RE: Facet beverage? / bvm wheels

Yes, the BVM mig wheels are 150 a pair no brake valve is included at that price and they usually were in stock when I needed them.

Hi Gary:

Just returned home from the Toledo show to see that you have completed your test hop.

Congratulations.

Yes, the stove pipe used for start-up can be very bennifical.

As you gain experiance with the FACET-2300, you will be able to shorten both your take-off and landing distances considerably.

Many happy landings.

Gary,

Congratulations!!! I have a lot of catching up to do. You've successfully flown 2 turbines from one of my home flying fields. I'll soon join in the fun once my Reaper is completed. Talk to you later.

JR

PS. Good luck on your job interview.

Hi Gary,
Mine weighed exactly what yours did, 20.5 lbs. I used the wheels/brakes that Sierra Precision sells along with UP6 brake valve.
Since it's still winter here in the NE, the windchill this morning was 17 degrees, I'm modifing the flaps to the latest design. No big deal except re-monokoting-UGH!
Sure hopes it warms up before July!
BRG,
Jon
