Neither, I just sanded the gelcoat. It went on beautiful and looks identical to the aluminum.
You look almost finished, what do you lack? Do you have the install done? Did you do the tanks?

I like the technique shown in the 4th issue of 2003 Jet Power Magazine. It is an article about doing a scale finish on a Eurofighter. I think I am going to try it for my F-15

Hi Matt,
Got another 4-5 flight on the P200 this past weekend. I really like it at 108. Its ran perfect.

The Hun is completely Flite Metal except for the inner doors, inner speedbrake, gun panels and part of rudder. Those are Metal Kote. The Hot section is painted over the Flite Metal with the "Hot Section" BVM paints which includes Manesium, Steel, Gold Titanium, Red and Blue. I like the Steel and Gold Titanium. Magnesium didnt give much contrast at all even though they look very similar in the bottle. This paint is very nice.

Your right and I didnt want to have a problem seeing a plane I been working on for 2 years. Red is my color!! I will be doing the same scheme on my New 80" BV F86 also.

Yes I am doing "The Spirit". I research my scale airplanes to death and usually like to pick a subject that has some sort of historical significance. My choices were between one of the camo airplanes that were flown by the "Misty FAC's, or the first Wild Weasel airplane, or "The Spirit". The first two are camo airplanes and I have done a couple of them so I decided on "The Spirit" because I wanted to try a different challenge. I will be doing Metalkote on mine, although I have been fooling around with the Flitemetal and it is pretty neat as well. I like the way the Flitemetal looks but my airplanes get flown a LOT and it seems to be very easy to scratch and ding up.

As for the answer to the Top Gun question, I have been so busy with work I could just not justify taking the time off. We are about to relocate some equipment to MS from Canada, and I will be out of the country for a week right before MS afterburner.

Well, it looks like we're going to be twinkies. Sorry.
This was a scheme I could actually find some info about, along with being red. It was also one I found a real picture of and some internet info also. I found some other red ones i liked also but they were all F models. I would have done the 353rd TFS if I had an F.
You are right about the scratches and dings. I think some clear will help. I think the tradeoff for the digs, etc was the appearance of the rivits.
Starting the red this weekend and then the decals.
Well, we will have the same airplane, but im sure yours will be tricked out more. At this point im happy to have it flying, in a few weeks, and worry about bells and whistles later.
Oh yea, yours might be a bit faster also[>:]

I am working on some pretty trick stuff for it right now. I have been working on the parachute compartment and chute cable feathers. I am doing my own tail bumper, and was not happy with the retractable landing lights I got from the guy selling them so I am re doing them. All the framing is done and the puttying is almost finished, it's just all these kazillion little details that drag it out forever.

As for dings and scratches. That's a low maintenance item with Flite-Metal unless you are careless.
Here's the Flite-Metal maintenance kit:

You simply use the finishing pad to remove scratches and use the soft burnishing tools to remove dings.
