Hey Scott
It really depends on your documentation and you personal preferences. For me, I airbrushed in vertical lines with the gold going from the front to the rear. I applied progressivly more color as I got toward the back end. The I followed up with the steel mostly on the rear, again darkening towards the back. I used just a trace of blue right at the back. The best thing is you can start light with the technique and sort of buildup the color. The color is very durable, no lifting or peeling off of flite metal. Also, check your documentation and BVM's 3 view of the hot section. You'll need to mask off several areas where the natural metal was not discolored. |

hey bro',
nice work. I'm sure it looks even better "in the flesh", so to speak. c'ya buck |

Did You use the Magnesium?

PS Just practice your technique on a piece of flite metal beforehand. It really is pretty easy and the effect is very realistic.
Thanks for the note Buck. This plane is the coolest thing on the planet, as planes go. |
RE: BVM Titanium Hot section help!!!
You know, Scott, I did. Put a little cup on your airbrush, and pour a small amount of each color in a separate cup and test the effect over the gold and each other. It's easy to get a feel for the effect you want on a trial piece. In general my plane looked more "gold" and that's probably why you get two bottles as for a base. I have seen some F-100's that are almost blue in the back but I stayed away from the red. Bottom line, I 'll bet the whole job took 20 minutes start to finish.

Very Nice F model! I recgonize the verticle stab as the "Cutter" bird. That is a sharp looking finish.
When do you plan on the first flight? |

Hey, that's one of the reasons I purchased your Snake Eyes. At the rate I'm going the plane will be ready to fly any time between two weeks and six months. I'm installing the systems now.

Sweet, nose shot!
Did you FliteMetal or Metal Cote or Presto? can't tell from the pics. Did you use auto paint for the colors? I am working on the same bird rigth now. FliteMetal will be the finish. |
RE: BVM Titanium Hot section help!!!
100% Filte Metal. PPG colors and 2060 flexed and flat clear.

RE: BVM Titanium Hot section help!!!
Which PPG? I was under the impression it didn't stick to FM well? I haven't confirmed that yet. Did you do DBU, DBC? You are going to have to build a shelf in you shop for all the trophys:D

Mr. Jetpilot
Painting the burnt section of an F-100 is serious business. This process should only be done buy a trained professional. I painted mine with Krylon Chrome and then went to my cats litter box and used the clumps against the surface in soft brush stokes. Use a glove!! I did this on a plastic revel model and the results were fascinating. I use Silver then Titanium and then thinned black way down in vertical strokes...and then shoot blue pearl over it....to give it the hot metal look. Mr. B |

COOPER,
Your Hun looks really good. Im going to start experimenting tonight. Did you paint over the Flite Metal or primer then paint. I thought You could paint straight over , no primer. Scott |
RE: BVM Titanium Hot section help!!!
I purchased an adhesion promotor from my body shop supply. It's a clear spray and I believe is suitable for bare metal.

RE: BVM Titanium Hot section help!!!
Thanks guys.
Actually Im doing the 417th red with white stars. Should start that this weekend. Let me also add that I love this paint. Good stuff!!!! I painted the inner gear doors and gun ports and inner speedbrake with metal kote. That stuff goes down very easy and looks exactly like the Flight Metal. I sanded the sections and then went over with scotch brite before i painted and it looks just like the aluminum. Scott |
