Brakes for standard Wheels
 

Does anyone know where I can get brakes to fit standard wheels (dubro,robart etc).
I am building a jet trainer (Jet-1 from Wren Turbines)
and don't want to go the the expense of BVM or glennis wheels. I am sure I have seen an advert in one of the magazines somewhere. Any input would be appreceiated.

Try Don's Hobbies ( (785) 827-3222) in Kansas. He sells a brake that I think is called the Uni-brake. It can be use with Robart wheels. I have a set on my Byron F16 and so far they have worked great........and they are about $60.
He also has great prices on JR radio stuff.

I would not recommend using standard robart wheels on any jet unless it weighs in at less than 11 or 12 pounds, the tires are too soft and tend to "roll" under side loads, although it is possible to place inserts or liners inside the tires to make them stiffer I still found them to be marginal on jet models.
Take a look at Trim Aircraft and Intairco wheels and brakes. They should be much less expensive for you to purchase since they are made in Australia and they don't have to be shipped half way around the world to get to you.

BTW, I have a set of Intairco wheels and brakes on one of my jets and have been very happy with them.

thanks for your post. The model I am putting the wheels on will weigh no more than 10 pounds dry. It is a high wing trainer for my Wren 54. I was not going to use brakes but I think it will help me get used to their use.
I have Glennis Wheels on my Sabre but I don't want to use them. Also the Main gear is a regular alluminium gear, so most jet wheels won't fit.

Don's Hobbies in Kansas it is.I saw the advert in the latest RCM They are called the "Unibrake"
Fits all size wheels. They look like they work like BVM brakes with an "O" ring.

I will call him tonight.

Hobby Lobby has an electric brake system that runs from a 9v batt. They say it will adapt to almost any wheel. Its worth a look.
I have not seen these in person only in there cat.
