Roo II Elevons Binding - Fix ?

The top side of the Elevons on my Roo II are hitting/binding (at times) with the top of the wing skin/lip. I heard this is a fairly common issue and I heard the fix was to use some clear tape on the top side of the Elevon .... so it will slide easier under the wing skin/lip. Wondering what is the best method for this fix. I am also concerned that that the tape may come off in flight .... and the Elevons will again bind. Thanks. Bob

I took some 200 grit sand paper and releived the gap just a bit untill they worked smoothly. Be careful that you keep the hing line straight though or it will look bad. Russ

Ditto on opening the gap with sandpaper.

I used a clear hinging tape, I think it was for glider hinges, it is more durable than sellotape, perfect no problems at over 200mph, Im pretty sure sellotape would be ok too. I tried the sanding method but the tape is so much easier

You can also heat it a bit and slip a credit card or something in there and lift it clear. It will cool to form.

careful if you are going to try heating it ?? the upper skin can delaminate from the foam ! and the foam can detatch from the wood !!!

here's a picture of the tape i used.
you let one side of the tape touch the elevon horn and the rest just slips under the uperskin of the trailing edge.

[sm=thumbup.gif]Thanks for the picture!!!

Did you also sand the hinge line to open it up a bit before you put on the tape?

I did both the sandpaper and the heat method. Use a credit card like Sean says and you just want a small drop in it. I wish I would have just used the heat method in the first place. Now the gap is bigger from the sanding.

I bought some special tape from graupner, that is only sticky on one half. It is also quite firm compared to normal tape.
I think it is used for gap sealing sail plane wings...... works great on the euro!
