BVM F-86 conversion
 

I can buy an old BVM F-86 that's about 8 yrs old.
I have a 17 lb thrust engine I could use in it.
The BVM web site seems to indicate a 12 lb engine conversion kit for it.
Will the 17 lb engine fit?
How about wing loading and how do they fly with the bigger engine?
I'm sure I've heard of it being done before, but was wondering if it's a good idea.
Anything I should be aware of before I get into this project?

The conversion isn't too complicated. You should closely check the plane you are thinking about pruchasing. Be sure the interior of the fuse has been painted / sealed, and there is not a problem with oil that may have filteresd into the glass. There are several formers that ahve to be glued in on the conversion, and they won't stick to and oil saturated surface very well.

It's a new in box kit.
I'm just concerned about a larger engine and weight etc..
Also wondering if the by-pass and tail pipe are OK with the bigger engine.

I have seen several converted BVM F-86 fly with P-80's; so putting in 17 lb engine such as the P-70 should be just fine.

Doug Chronkite has a BVM F-86 with a P-70....it flies beautifully. Seems like a perfect match.

I will be putting a Simjet 1700 in it.
That's physically larger than the P70 I think.
Slightly heavier too I would guess.

Pete, I've been flying an older F86 with my AMT 180( 18# tuned down to 14#).A bit onthe heavy side but still a great flying jet. Hoping to sell the airframe soon and move on t the bigger F86. Here's a pic . Scott
