That vid is out of this world. How fast was he going there? How long does it take and how much experience to be able to fly a jet that fast?

a small question:

in USA you can only fly up to 200 mph, and as i understand this is an "AMA regulation"..

but if i go in the middle of the nevada desert,(for example) where there is "pratically nobody", can i fly faster than 200 mph??

or is overall limited to 200 mph??

thanks

Lots of myth here. As you can see, there are some people who just hate the AMA and everything they do.

200mph if you want AMA sanctioning. Which is all about $2million worth of insurance for $58 a year. That's all. You want that insurance? You have to stay below 200.
You want to go as fast as you want? Go out to the desert. Or any other open space you own or have permission to fly on. You can fly 300mph while drinking homemade moonshine and firing off an assault rifle. Nobody cares as long as you are not bothering somebody else.
There is NO law saying how fast a model jet is allowed to go.

That bungee-launched jet is called a Trance, it is kitted out of Germany. Many have said it does 300 pretty easily. Never seen it firsthand, myself.

It seems to depend on who you ask.

According to my conversation with Ilona Maine (from the AMA), if you're not at an AMA chartered club or an AMA sanctioned event, and you don't care about AMA insurance, then you don't have to worry about AMA rules.

According to my conversation with JPO Pres Steve Ellzey, if you're an AMA member at all then you must obey AMA rules at all times and can not selectively choose when you want AMA insurance (etc), and when you don't.

So - take your pick.

Gordon

Huh? Are you sure you did not misinterpret Steve Ellsey?
I mean, his statement is so far off the mark it's scary. If the president of the JPO is spreading info like that, then we ARE in trouble.
I tend to think it's a misinterpretation of what he must have said.
And info direct from AMA HQ from Ilona trumps info from a SIG President.

RE: Fastest Jet

Besides, what are they gonna do? Throw you out of the AMA because they heard you are flying out in the desert?
What about La Ferte Alais? QSAA Vegas? Ever heard of anybody getting thrown out of AMA for flying outside the bounds on their own time?

Here I think a hypothetical might help illustrate the point.

Let's say you are knowingly flying a plane with a takeoff weight of 58 pounds. You are flying somewhere that you think of as outside of the so-called AMA "sanction". umbrella, whatever.

You cause an accident. The victim finds out you are in the AMA, which covers you at all times with 2M of liability insurance.

You tell the plaintiff, "no see you do not understand, my plane was flying 3 pounds over the limit so you can't sue the AMA, really...never mind that the AMA really does not have any formal restriction on its policy for 58 pound planes, but trust me it says on this little yellow card I have here in my flight box, it is called the safety code".

AMA would almost assuredly not deny the plaintiff's claim, unless flying your 58 pound plane is going to be held in the same light as the guy who flew into the blimp, which I have been told was the only case of non payment of a liability claim by the AMA.

So I think Steve's point is, as of now there is no way to passively "opt out" of the AMA insurance....you put the AMA insurance at risk everytime you fly.

Now I did talk to Carl about this, in an effort to find a way to "actively" opt out of AMA insurance. He said to send him a note when you plan to operate "outside of the AMA insurance" and he will take care of it...from his reaction to my question it sounded like a new request to him, not sure if others have tried it or not.

I do not think you would get thrown out of the AMA, but around here, the safety types will say you are putting the AMA at risk if you operate this way, and we are all so safety concious in jets that we do not want to get pounded by our own SIG or peers. Nothing to do with getting thrown out of the AMA.

I am absolutely, positivley, 100% certain. There was no way at all to misinterpret what was said.

Someone flew into a blimp??? let me know more about that one

RE: Fastest Jet

Someone purposely flew into a blimp several years ago and then tried to collect from the AMA on some liability claim. The insurance company did not pay. I do not know any other details.

i beleive it was a hot air balloon, if your talking about the incident near memphis.. a small r/c prop plane pilot decided to buzz a balloon that was floating not far enough away from the r/c field.. he hit it dead center and it came down slowly.. nobody was hurt, but the balloon was torn up pretty good.. i think/hope they pulled that idiot's ama card.

Hello all,
we had a discussion here in this forum about two years ago. Just an advise.
My latest project: the same airframe, wingspan 1 meter, 39 1/2 inch length 1,2 meter 47 1/4 inch.
landing weight 10lbs T/O weight 13lbs.

I am not going to start a war again. Make up your own mind if it is fast.

RE: Fastest Jet

Where can I buy one of these ?

Vmax 03-13-2005 04:51 AM

RE: Fastest Jet

you can buy them here:

http://www.voegele-motorsport.de/start.htm

Voegele calls it inferno.

I call it TRANCE.

BUT, i build my planes by my self!!
My planes are made up with honeycomb. The planes from voegele are made with herex.
AND notice my turbine is sunk into the wing. The plane from voegele is flat in tail area.
And notice my one does not have tiptanks on stabilizer and wings.
The Stabilizers are a lot smaller then the one from voegele.

For the ones who still don“t believe that 300+ mph is possible,
why is it possible then that a glider is faster then most jets here?

Come on guys.
I mean this is almost ridicolous.

Ever seen a glider with more than 260 mph? Look here:

http://jzepeda.rchomepage.com/KyleHigh262mph.wmv

or here:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303640

These guys are flying in the US. More than 200mph.
OMG. The AMA!!!! AAHH!
