RE: central texas jet rally update
Hey guys, how far is the field from downtown? I get corporate discount at the holiday inn, so I may stay there. Plus, Im deffinetly going to 6th street.
|
RE: central texas jet rally update
not far. bu there is also a holiday inn right on 35 before you get off on they highway toward the field. I stayed there last year when there was a cheerleader convention going on, how unlucky was I?
|
RE: central texas jet rally update
Holiday Inn that Ronnie refers to is about 5 miles from downtown and about 7.5 from the field. Check post #5 in this thread, it is listed there with a map.
|
RE: central texas jet rally update
there also is a holiday inn express at 183 and i-35.. might be the same one bob-o is referring to. and then the one on town lake downtown. if you (or anyone) ends us staying downtown, let me know and i can give you alternate directions to the field and a few pub suggestions.
ronnie, if you are going to take in 6th street you might try one of the other listed hotels, they will put you a little closer. also just realized that april 30th is the annual eeyore's birthday party... so if your so is feeling a little psychedelic... more info on pecan street art fair and eeyore's birthday party at http://www.6street.com/ |

FYI
If anyone wants to start the process for the 2006 waiver renewal, there will be notary at the Austin event as well as most of the events in Texas this year. Renewal affidavits (AMA doc. 510E) will be available at the event. I know its early, you can keep the form with the 2005 waiver or in your transmitter case and hopefully still have it in December. Remember the 20 flight rule. A lot of flyers already have their flights in. |
RE: central texas jet rally update
Heard mention of a runway extension???? What is the length of the runway now?
Look forward to the event every year.....Great people and lots of war stories. Kevin |
RE: central texas jet rally update
Depends on who you ask, but it is plenty long enough, 125' extention. I think it's somewhere between 550 and 600.

Kevin
Just short of 600 feet. Attached is a picture of last years event taken from a RC helicopter. |
RE: central texas jet rally update
all
the entry road has a been redone completely and we are ready to go. the runway is 578' long. |
RE: central texas jet rally update
Sean,
I have a couple of new machines and was not sure if I wanted to do the test flights in Austin. Phil Nuza had told Doc he thought it was lengthened to 700 that was why I asked. Thanks, Kevin |
RE: central texas jet rally update
Kevin, I think a lot of people thought we had 500 feet before the ext. Throw 125 or rumor more and you're easily at 700. We used to drive up to waco to test fly, but now we're test flying here with no concern (although this is our home field and sometimes it's just easier to fly at your home field).
I don't have a lot of high wing loading time, so I probably wouldn't test fly a rhino or a F-104 here, but pretty much anything else, I wouldn't hesitate, hope that helps make up your mind. Sean |
