also for those who might be bringing so's, the pecan street festival on 6th street is the same weekend. we will work out some maps and info for the arts and crafts festival.

other than that we are still fattening up the herd for the fajitas and steak. please let me know if you have any questions.

Hey guys, how far is the field from downtown? I get corporate discount at the holiday inn, so I may stay there. Plus, Im deffinetly going to 6th street.

Shok 04-12-2005 05:49 AM

RE: central texas jet rally update

not far. bu there is also a holiday inn right on 35 before you get off on they highway toward the field. I stayed there last year when there was a cheerleader convention going on, how unlucky was I?

bcovish 04-12-2005 07:49 AM

RE: central texas jet rally update

Holiday Inn that Ronnie refers to is about 5 miles from downtown and about 7.5 from the field. Check post #5 in this thread, it is listed there with a map.

patf 04-12-2005 08:46 AM

RE: central texas jet rally update

there also is a holiday inn express at 183 and i-35.. might be the same one bob-o is referring to. and then the one on town lake downtown. if you (or anyone) ends us staying downtown, let me know and i can give you alternate directions to the field and a few pub suggestions.

ronnie, if you are going to take in 6th street you might try one of the other listed hotels, they will put you a little closer.

also just realized that april 30th is the annual eeyore's birthday party... so if your so is feeling a little psychedelic...

more info on pecan street art fair and eeyore's birthday party at http://www.6street.com/

FYI

If anyone wants to start the process for the 2006 waiver renewal, there will be notary at the Austin event as well as most of the events in Texas this year. Renewal affidavits (AMA doc. 510E) will be available at the event. I know its early, you can keep the form with the 2005 waiver or in your transmitter case and hopefully still have it in December. Remember the 20 flight rule. A lot of flyers already have their flights in.

Heard mention of a runway extension???? What is the length of the runway now?

Look forward to the event every year.....Great people and lots of war stories.

Depends on who you ask, but it is plenty long enough, 125' extention. I think it's somewhere between 550 and 600.

Sean,

I have a couple of new machines and was not sure if I wanted to do the test flights in Austin. Phil Nuza had told Doc he thought it was lengthened to 700 that was why I asked.

Thanks,
Kevin

RE: central texas jet rally update

Kevin, I think a lot of people thought we had 500 feet before the ext. Throw 125 or rumor more and you're easily at 700. We used to drive up to waco to test fly, but now we're test flying here with no concern (although this is our home field and sometimes it's just easier to fly at your home field).

I don't have a lot of high wing loading time, so I probably wouldn't test fly a rhino or a F-104 here, but pretty much anything else, I wouldn't hesitate, hope that helps make up your mind.

The Quality Inn, which is the Old Manor Inn located in Manor, TX is the Motel that's closest to the field.

Dawn can make the reservations for you.

Looking forward to it. For those who arrive late in the evening and have trailers, drop the trailer at the field before you go to the hotel if you wish. The gate may be closed but will be unlocked... There will be people staying at the field. There are 4 motorhomes there already.

RE: central texas jet rally update

Hey Bob, speaking of locked, thanks for helping me out the other morning, I'll tell you that day for me pretty much sucked! I woke up at 3:30, got to the field by 4:20, called you cause I couldn't remember the code, it's pouring very cold rain, I'm standing there trying to open the gate, lock would not come undone, I just couldn't call you again, so I ran the whole way up to my Rig, then ran back (soaked). Got to the airport by 5. Jet to Little Rock by 9. Drove to my jobsite by 11. Finished at 2. Little Rock jet to Houston by 4:30, missed my connecting flight. Caught a flight to Austin at 9:15 pm, at home by 11:15pm. Then stayed up till 2 am getting the isobar in shape for this weekend :D

Hope everyone else is rested up for this weekend as I might just be sitting back and drinking all your beers while you fly :D:D[8D][8D]

I'lle be there Saturday noon for a while, then hit the Oasis (I've heard is a must for tourists from North Texas) :D

My fiance wants to go Wedding Dress shopping in Austin, so I will try to convince her to drop me off in the morning.

For those who don't have hotel reservations yet, I got $65 a nigth at the Hyatt downtown using priceline (reg price is $160).

See you guys there, I will need help tuning in my new OS .91. You guys need to tell me how much lean is lean. :D

I was thinking about maidening the Maverick in Austin, but actually I think I may just sell it with or without the turbine.
I have my eye on something else now.....as usual.

So bring money!

David

the pecan street festival is going on this weekend, she might be happy enough to take that in, it sets up on 6th street with arts and crafts booths and of course there is a live band at every other cross street. then there is the avp volleyball tourney, the championship tour is in town, eeyore's birthday, i know there are about ten more things going on...

the oasis will be at least a three hour wait, especially with the golf tourney going on out at lakeway.. most restaraunts around lake travis will be getting hammered.. you might consider the hula hut instead, on lake austin, not on lake travis... we can talk about it at the field.
