Gyro setting
 

Todd,
I used the Left slider for my gyro gain control on my 9Z. It was adjustable from 0 to about 85% gain so you could adjust it for conditions like david recommended. After a couple of flights doing it that way it becomes second nature to adjust it with the slider.

Hi Todd,

I am currently setting up a BobCat on a Futaba 9ZA radio. The gyro set-up is really simple. The gyro gain is on Aux 1 and then mixed using the P-Mix function.

Set up Retracts as master and Aux 1 (gyro gain) as slave. I am using the GY 351 gyro. I assume that your radio is the 9C. I use on of the rotary dials to fine tune the gyro and then disable it (the dial) when the gyro gain feels good.

If you are using a JR gyro, make sure to test it a bunch before flying. Some people have problems with JR gyros when used with Futaba radios.

Hi Matt,

I'd go with the GY-351. Or if you would want gyro on both rudder and aileron, the GY-352 is a two axis gyro in one compact unit. (Both axis have separate gyro gain)

Matt,
You can use a Futaba or a JR gyro with futaba gear. My bobcat flew with a 309DPS and a JR G450 gyro. If you can find one I would go with the G450 gyro. It is a real joy to use and setup is quite easy.

why are you using a pmix? Why don't you just assign the gain control to the retract switch in the function menu? Then use the ATV of Aux1 to set the gain desired.

That's a good idea. I was using the P-mix in order to be able to switch it off in case I did not like the settings.

Kevin, You need to invest in some of the velcro that the Veltie guy at Superman sells. Ask him for the stuff that you have to glue down, the stuff he puts in a plastic bag for you. If your reciever comes loose from it it is because you have absoultely drilled the airplane into the ground and the velcro burned off. It is almost a permanent install.

Actually I think it would be very similar. While I am not familiar with the Futaba I would bet you can use a mix gain channel to itself and activate it with the retract switch. The 10X has a servo monitor screen that I use for setup. I set the mix then look at it there and guestimate at the actual percentage. I don't use the gyro function in the 10X although I did use it once on a prop plane.


Bob-O I just let my filter flop in the breeze it just makes sure any air bubbles can dislodge.

For my tank I took a CF angle bracket and aeropoxied it to the front of the tank, and glued a maple block onto the top of the wing. One screw thru the bracket and the tank is not going anywhere.

Thanks for the tip on the Velcro! I've never had anything come loose before in flight but I witnessed someone that did. Lately, I've been using the Velcro straps to hold everything down. The hardware store peel-n-stick stuff seems to work loose after a while. (The adhesive) I'll look this fellow up with the industrial strength Velcro at Superman. Kevin
