RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Greg, you can get video editing software for any PC that can handle standard video from your super 8 using RC jacks or if your camera has S_Video output using that, the final result is half decent and can be uploaded to RCU, YouTube etc
my first EAGLE video was on VHSc and it looks pretty good |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Paul,
I am aware of the issues people had with the early JJ's and yes, i have read all the posts in this thread with great interest. I also agree with most of what you say, however I decided to get a JJ purely because of what I have read in these posts and I was very interested in seeing some of the related 'issues' for myself and NOT because of personal economical reasons. I have a JJ-1800 which has been running on the bench for about 70mins without any problems apart from the fuel pump issue causing some erratic running at top rpm. Which is not any fault of Jet Joe's. But the 1800 has been stripped and examined by my collegues here who were the developers of the TJT engines like the TJT 3000 Eagle ,the forerunners of the now Artes turbines. Basically KJ66 variants as is the Jet Joe 1800. Interestingly enough it looks like any run of the mill KJ-66 and guess what.... it runs like any run of the mill KJ-66. Nothing special here. The tollerences and QC are admittedly average but all that happens here is a motor which is less efficient than it could be, thats all. I am completely un biased in my posts and only report my personal findings as i examine and experience them. I have however had adverse experience with the Wren and not only one solitary problem either. So, i am merely responding to the people who relentlessly champion their brand of turbine and say they are 'flawless' and run 'forever' etc..... I hate brand bashing as much as over promoting and I think people on this thread want to hear about issues relating to Jet Joe engines and how to resolve issues as well as experiences good or bad. Now before I jump on my high horse here, there is no one this is aimed at in particular but you all know who you are. There is nothing more I hate than those people that keep popping up and harping on about past experiences and carrying on 'bashing'. As well as those who keep popping up and flying the old ' my turbine is just so much better than a JetJoe' flag, please give it a break! we have heard it all before.. Let this thread take it's natural course. For better or worse, it could be very interesting in the long run, but please stop championing some 'cause' against Jet Joe. |

You said it, MAX NITRO!!!!!!! I could not have said it better.

Thank you for that nitro, that was really well said. I have considered the JJ but still look in my wallet and cry. Some day. -Steve

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
There is nothing more I hate than those people that keep popping up and harping on about past experiences When someone claims that he produces a rc turbine tested and airworthy, i expect to get at least that. If i was claiming that i have a good and airworthy turbine for sale let's say at ebay, and you were the buyer and got a crashed and worthless turbine wouldn't you call me with some other names and take actions against me? This thread was created in order to monitor the progress of the jetJoe turbine and potential buyer or reader of this thread has the right to know the good and the bad aspects of this turbine. The history of this turbine cannot only contain good things just because there are a few turbines that run well when there are 100 more in the garbage bins somewhere around the world.... The reader of this thread after reading ALL THE FACTS must decide on its own and take the responsibility for his actions. Finally i want to say that there is no need to be emotional about a product because that what this turbine is, a product. Chris |

Another 2 text book flights today with my JJ1400 powered Tamjets F-16. Will be flying again tomorrow eveing :D
Geh3, Got the video software, but video, 3 min. 34 sec., is over 700 MB on my hard drive (Youtube limits file size to 100 MB). Hope to get the video within size limits. Greg Hames |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
ORIGINAL: MAX NITRO Well, if QC is something Wren owners enjoy, than my friend certainly did not! His Wren SS had NGV rub from the get go. His replacement SS also suffered numerouse ECU problems which resulted in a few crashes! other Wrens here have had dud pumps out of the box from our local distributor........ If this is not enough Wren (Sarah) promised my friend a new ECU and a couple of other small bits and peices which he to this day never received, so please lay off Jet Joe, he is not the only one with QC problems. Which I may say are getting less and less. At least with his turbines we expect to maby have to play around a bit to get them running, but thats OK because thats why we buy a turbine for 1/3 the cost of a european turbine. My JJ had only one small issue with the pump motor, oh and the pump is a FlightWorks. As for the ECUs the problems sound very out of character for Wren, as such things are usually rectified promptly. Like so many times, maybe the engine was having problems with its owner. shonny |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Thanks Shonny
That explains a few questions for me, since it is as rare as rocking horse droppings for Wren's world reknowned customer service to miss a beat. Blaming Wren for ECu problems is also unusual as Gasper makes these exclusively for them but also All of JetJoes. Gasper like Kurt, Jesus and Thomas, are the founding fathers of rc turbines operation and any problem ecu he takes back as a matter of professional pride. The commonest ECU operator botch up is connecting reverve polarity, this definitely upsets the electronics. So lets get real basics JJ ECu's are not better than Wrens. Joes are only programmed a little poorer than Wrens 2007 operational settings. Did I mention that Wren won the recent Gas Turbine Builders Assoc Efficiency award jointly with Peter Chaffe? Also in three years have you ever read a Jetjoe review in any international Jet magazine? No? none have ever been published and only one I know withdrawn as it was pulled do to the patent defects found. Paul |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Greg, depending on your software, you can cut some time off of some scenes and re-do the length or cut out footage that maye be shaky or where the plane is too far away to see. ALSO some video formats take up less hard drive space, I believe MJPEG might me less memory hoggy than an .AVI, maybe someone with more moviemaking savvy can comment

Nice one Greg

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
The turbine wheel rubbing on the NGV was in this case NOT a result of lacking QC from Wren, but appeared to be a result of a very hot first start attempt. The rub was very minimal, of no consequence, and was corrected quickly and easily Or is this another incident with a Wren????? hmmm Anyway the ECU in question was not a Gasper, it was a Digitec........ rcdriver22 , you are one of those i put in my catagory of 'slagger' and 'over-promoter' we have all heard enough of the same old "Wren rules & JetJoe sux' cr@p from you, so put a sock in it! Please lets all play nice and move forward constructively. |

Gasper makes Digiitic ECUs and his Turbines and also makes JJ and Wrens ECUs Sandor is Digitec and is a Jets Munt rep as he sells them as his own brand, he calls it you know .......... buts its just Gasper's Jets Munt ecu and Gaspers turbine Sock in it? Naaah You protest too...... my JG !00 is the TJT in its early format, of metal bits and the basic good old truth is out. slagger' and 'over-promoter' thats me on line Read the truith shame the slagger |

RCDRIVER22,
Are you saying Easytiger has sneaked back on RCU as Max Nitro? Also gents, My JJ1400 came with a Gaspar ECU. This is the same one used by WREN. All is equal on this point. DW_Crash |

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
I like your plane very much, sure looks and flies great.
I do have a comment though, your landings look too rough. I am not trying to play the expert, it just looks to me that way. The runway doesn't help a lot also, judging from your videos. Btw the JJ1400 works very well in your plane. Chris |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Nice job with the F-16, looks really good in the air!
|
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Chris,
It seems that when the camera is on I make a less that average landing (maybe the pressure of being recorded). Out of my 12 flights I have "greased" 7 out of 12, bounced 2 out of twelve, and made 3 out of 12 o.k. but below average landings. My confidence is growing and yes, our concrete runway is in 15 foot sections so there is some nose bounce on takeoff roll (it is also well aged = about 30 years old with some chipping and cracking of the pavement). Anyway, I hope to get on video a great all around flight. Greg Hames |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
It seems that when the camera is on I make a less that average landing (maybe the pressure of being recorded). I do insist though that the F16 is not the easiest plane to land and it requires a very smooth, wide and long runway Chris |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Gents,
Fired up my upgraded JJ1400 today. It just ran without any major hiccups. Got three real good runs out of it. I was quite happy that JetJoes upgrades worked as well as they did. But I do have a question or two. 1) JetJoe set the Accel and Deaccel rates at 40. This seems a bit high. The engine was a bit sluggish to spool up and down. What setting seem to work well for your engines? 2) JetJoe set the idle speed at 35K. The engine seemed happier at 40K eventhough the setting was 35K. What idle speed are you using? 3) The only hiccup I had was a sticky starter bendix. Have other had this problem? What was a good solution? What to look for? I put a couple drop of oil and it worked for the the thre runs. But, it seemed to sticking again on the cooldown of the third run. Thanks, DW_Crash |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Accel and decel delay 20, idle speed 45,000, stability delay 50 should be about right. The starter motor is most likely not exactly centered is usually why they stick. Find out which way it needs to go and whack the starter with a short block of wood (at the reinforced part) don't try to knock off the front cover just a good sharp rap. Use a c cell battery and test starter to make sure you went the right way if its right it should release every time.
