Where is the serial number, cant see it on mine ?

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Mine is just by the glow plug, printed on the turbine body.

Move the mounting straps most likely hidden under one of the bands.

My JJ's serial # is 4073. Can any one tell me if this is a 1200 or 1400 - the compressor blade has 12 blades. Also, is this a later version with ICONEL combustion chamber?

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Its a 1400 and it should be inconel combustion chamber.

OK guys,

I just got the one piece tail cone from JJ (free), and im wondering - would you recommend replacing the 2 piece i currently have with the one piece already ? the one piece certainly looks better to the eye.

fw190pilot 06-19-2007 12:26 PM

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

The one piece tailcone will give a little more thrust at the expense of higher fuel consumption and slighty higher exhaust temps.

Here she is with the new one piece cone.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Hey guys,

I have a problem with my JJ1400.

First, i tried the new one piece tail cone i got from China, and it didnt work well, temps 700+C easily, so i went back to the normal 2 piece cone (temps back down again) but now i have a different prolem.

The turbine would only ignite gas if given a serious amount of gas flow, leading to a puff of flame on ignition. this worked for seveal cycles today, but right now it doesnt ignite at all !!

i put a new OS8 plug in (what i have at home) and stretched the heck out of the coils out (carefully) and varified that it lights like a christmas tree when the ECU tells it to, but still no ignition.

One thing i did notice is that the sleeve holding the glow plug (threads) is loose inside the engine body and i could move it with a screw driver - is this reasonable ?

Also, when i look in the glow plug hole, it seems half blocked with some metal part.. i can only assume its the CC?

any ideas what to do with this ?
Please advise.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Guys,

I forgot to mention i can get the turbine to start by giving my gas tank a good shake (its full by the way) - meaning it would blow a large amount of gas inside, and then it would ignite suddenly with a puff of fire.

It seems that with a regular (as before) amount of gas (not too much) it does not ignite at all no matter what i do.

Can this be related to the glow plug sleeve and \ or CC moving ?

Just managed to burn out the starter motor for some reason as well. [:@]

Where can i get a replacement one ?

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

It might be that the glow plug fitting has broken away from the combustion chamber.

i3dm 06-24-2007 12:46 PM

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Tony,

The glow plug fitting is definitely not attached to the CC.

1. i understand this is not normal right ? in that case, what could have caused this ?
2. can it be fixed (i have welding equipment if needed) or must it be sent for service ?
3. is this the reason the gas isnt igniting as well ?

There can be some movement on the CC due to aligning the gas and fuel pipes ups to the compressors holes. This in turn puts a strain on them and long term the strain may crack them if the mis alignment is severe. In your case its a minor irratation getting the glow plug in again. What can also happen is in pushing to align CC and can the plug coil gets knocked. However if there is the right combination of air and gas together with a glow its going to POP.

The starter motors are standard in 6v and 7.2 formats, better get a good German one as they last longer than Chinese (although probably made there) say a Graupner Speed 280 BB I think (the 300 is too big?)

rcdriver22, did you notice i mentioned the plug sleeve is not attached to the CC anymore ?

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

No I was writing my reply as you posted yours. It can be easily silver soldered back into place while you are waiting for your new starter motor.

Hey fellas, Just wanted to let you all know that I purchased a JJ1800 from Gabe at www.jetjoeus.com. I installed it on my A-10X and flew it about 9 times total this weekend. The turbine was flawless, started EVERY time perfectly, no bad behaviors whatsoever. I'm not a Turbine techie and only accept what I can plug and play with and THIS turbine definitley fits my criteria. By the way, it flew the snot out of the A-10X, nice verticals, fast passes..etc.

OK guys i actually found the exact same 300 starter motor laying at home brand new (left over that came from an electric foamie and was never used) - so the starter is up and running again.

Any idea about the glow plug threads sleeve ? is this whats causing the turbine not to ignite the gas ?

Hi all,

I have just over 5 hours of run/flying time on my JJ1400 Tamjets F-16.

All is going great with the turbine and I have not had 1 problem at all.

Next report will be at 10 hours.

If the sleeve is off the combustion chamber this is most likely why it doesn't want to ignite the gas it can be repaired very easily though. Take off the tailcone and the case and verify that the glow plug sleeve is off the combustion chamber or loose check the gas tubes while your there and make sure they aren't broken. If its ok reassemble it and line up the glow plug hole better by carefully bending the fuel and gas lines a little. If you are using the copper washer get rid of it don't need it and without it the plug will stick in the combustion chamber further and improve gas ignition. If I remember right the OS 8 plug is a little shorter than most other plugs, a MCcoy mc 9 plug seems to work about the best.

Guys,
How do i take the case off to get to the CC? i have never disassembled a turbine before.. ? what do i need to know ?

If you have never taken a turbine apart before then I suggest at this stage you dont, might be better to let someone else do it for you or send it back to china.
Maybe one day I might understand why people think they will save money by buying these things and not getting them from well known manufactures, you would have nothing like the problems with a WREN.
Oh well whatever, its your money spend it how you like.
