RE: Sandown
I will be at:
Weston Park Wings and Wheels Woodspring Wings LMA Cosford (??) Top Gun Nats RCME Freestlye. Would be good to see some of you :) |
RE: Sandown
I'll save even more £££££ by not going anymore. Who wants to drag a bag round with them with sandwiches and beer that will be to warm to drink by the time you want it.
I can't see this show going on much more than a couple of years. I do feel it's had it's time when there's so many good shows about this time of year. |
RE: Sandown
Hi Dave, Go to Wings and Wheels as it's the last one. Don't know if you have ever been, It's well worth the little extra drive. I'ts a great day out for the family. there's a market on the site for the wives and girlfriends.
This year there bringing the jets back that's worth the drive on it's own. |
RE: Sandown
ORIGINAL: wot4dave Absolute rubbish, expensive to get in, expensive food, no real beer, all in all crap. Don't think I'll be going anymore. If I do I'll have to re-mortgage the house. Thanks for cheering us all up... we enjoyed it ;)...did you see Ali's magnificent Wren Turbo-prop powered Spitfire ?.. the bloke who did things with that Helli i did'nt think were possible [:-]... i had two 12 year olds with me who were just as mesmerized by the control line displays as i was by the blond on the Traplet stand..:) |

RE: Sandown
Well Treadstone, I'll give you that, ali and the guy with the helli was good but what did you and the children do for the other six and a half hours? don't tell me you looked round the stands, great if you like tools. I see some nice spaners there if you need them for your car. all the rest of the flying was your every day sunday flyers with the same models just different covering.
Now really treat the kids by taking them to Wings and Wheels. They will be mesmerized all day there. Real tarmac runway, much bigger planes, jets and hellis, not your usuall Sunday flying. If the weathers nice there's plenty of blondes there if thats what interested you more. You can always walk round the market doing a bit of purving. |

RE: Sandown
Bet the blondes were well dressed or freezing their ar$es off.:D:D:D
Cos it certainly aint lady's day:D;):D;):D Sandown is expensive to get in and gear isn't cheap. The shops need to get back the massive prices pay for the stalls. Sandown is past, its run it course:D:D! Had to say that one Laura ORIGINAL: wot4dave If the weathers nice there's plenty of blondes there if thats what interested you more. RE: Sandown
The big show coming up at the NEC Birmingham is another Traplet effort. Reckon this will be an even more expensive trip what with the entry fee and car parking knocking around £6. ..and if you travel by train to the adjacent International station!! Not much left for goodies!

All
Don't know where these stories come from but I can assure you that Wings and Wheels (25 - 26th June) is alive and well and definately not the last year for the Show. Each year we seek to improve things and this year there will be jets flying for the first time in many years. A handfull of people have been invited to fly jets this year as a demonstration to the authorities that jets can be safely operated out of what is quite a small site (due to the proximity of the car park at the end of the runway). Jets were banned several years ago from the show by the authorities after a couple of inconsiderate pilots ignored the safety instructions and repeatedly overflew the car park. It is hoped that sensible flying this year will convince the authorities to allow more jet flying in the future. Its up to the pilots who have been invited to prove safe flying is possible. RE: Sandown
Hi Dennismate,
I noted your comments regarding the standard of flying. Would you elaborate on that point please. What was wrong and what would you like to see done differently? Regards, John ORIGINAL: Dennismate I have been going to Sandown for years and I have to say that this year was the worst show ever, more expensive and less stalls than ever. Flying was pretty rubish too. I mean £2.80 for a bacon roll....... come on, and the bar had run out of beer........ never again |
RE: Sandown
As always at Sandown the runway is too restrictive which limits the type of models that can fly there. Most of the models flying are the usual average Sunday models or the same as the previous years show. My biggest gripe is the fact that the entrance fee seems to go up each year but the show gets smaller, this year every other stall seemed to be selling tools. This was my last year at the show, I'm with wot4dave, I'm gonna save my money for Wings 'n' Wheels.
RIP Sandown |
RE: Sandown
Cheers Dennismate, I totally agree with you,
Johnmac, just look at the photos. I can rember when you couldn't walk round, you was carried inside and out. Don't blame it on the cup final, I was there on there Sunday and it was the same. Sorry mate but Sandown is finished unless they can find a cheeper and better site. It was more like Halfords than a model show. |
